RobbieB haven't seen you around for awhile

Actually was a woman named Maureen who lived in Sarasota FLA. Don't remember her screen name but it had "MO" in it.

Oh, I'm sorry I missed that.

imoldernu started a legendary, beloved thread titled "Sharing 23 years of Frugal Retirement". He was posting regularly, then one day his son announced his passing on that thread. Many, many pages of tributes and thanks yous followed. It was the most heart-warming thing I've seen on these forums, and a good tonic against the bickering currently being seen on certain threads.

Agree with you there. Imoldernu was a favorite here and lived a relatively simple but happy retirement.

Yes, yes. I enjoyed his reads and experiences in ER,

Absolutely loved imoldernu. His send off was befitting of his place in the hearts of the FIRE community. I still miss him.

+1 He shared a lot of wisdom with us.

Another person I miss is HaHa. He could be counted on to add some spice to any topic.

Completely agree. I miss him and his contributions.

brewer12345 is another one I miss. A very good financial contributor but he hasn't posted in almost 3 years.

I found brewers comments rather acerbic at times. But he certainly nailed the coming economic storm of Covid well before the rest of us or the markets ever considered it. I definitely respected him for that. Wasn’t long after that he ceased posting.

I suspect he is still in a cave in some rural hideaway. That seemed to be where he was heading. I also miss his commentary.

An example of one who was put on timeout for X time, then when taken off timeout, didn't post again.

Sharp commentary, but yes could be acerbic at times.

For what it's worth (maybe nothing), I googled "brewer12345" and came across recent posts on several gun forums. That sounds to me like a topic that might interest him. So, I am thinking that (like many of us) he has many interests and perhaps has been posting elsewhere on topics other than early retirement, lately.

As for Maureen in Bradenton/Sarasota (Moemg), apparently she passed away.

No idea about Haha.

I also miss FIREd, a former mod who retired and moved back to Europe.

And, I'm befuddled by the fact that RobbieB's profile says he's living in Alabama, when IIRC he was living in California near Sacramento.

"And, I'm befuddled by the fact that RobbieB's profile says he's living in Alabama, when IIRC he was living in California near Sacramento."

With the boat and the commute while still working he described, I thought he was in Stockton or maybe the Tracy area. When he disappeared, I was afraid there had been a boating accident. Alabama makes no sense. I wish him well, whatever happened.

Yes, you're probably right about him being closer to Stockton or Tracy. I just have a hazy memory of him living in California somewhere, but not LA or SF. From where I am here in Louisiana, Sacramento, Stockton, and Tracy seem like almost the same place. Between the Pacific Ocean and the Sierra Nevada mountain range, in north central California.

Like you, I have been afraid that he has been in an accident of some sort.

Whether Alabama or Cali, the last posts of RobbieB were a back and forth in a negative way and he probably decided it was enough.

Yeah, I think it was Stockton. I recall looking up the route that he planned when he bought his new boat. There is an California inland water route that RobbieB said he had to traverse to get home. The water route was quite extensive - and I never knew it existed.

Well, RobbieB, where ever you are, keep Blowing That Dough!

I love these memory threads. I know Nemo2 and danmar and they were both retired and looking for more interesting places to share their current interests when they left.

On our financial wisdom forum, one of the founders is sharing his long goodbye after being moved to his final seniors stay while alive. Very poignant!

Another contributor gave me his contest spreadsheet and left to pursue his travels until he finally passed after ten years.

The idea of putting closure on active forums is really good and I think I will ask my oldest son to handle mine.

I love that idea of closure here on the forum. I'll try to leave some kind of instructions for DW or the kids to mention my passage (if the mods don't bounce me first.)

I belong to the same tech forum for the last 25 years and we've had several members that either a family member came in and posted some closure or we did some investigation.

I remember those two. I actually enjoyed Nemo2's photos of his adorable granddaughters as much as his travel updates. Danmar also had a lot of fun posts about his travels, homes, and wife & daughter. I hope they are both doing well.

I will always think fondly of imoldernu he was an unfailingly kind poster, and hope HaHa is busy dancing . . .

Agree on IMOLDERNU.
Unfortunately many long time posters do leave after a back and forth semi contentious situation/posting.
Danmar was before my time, but IMHO Nemo left after some negative postings, perhaps towards Canadiens.
Same thing with @Daylatedollarshort with a negative back and forth.
It is too bad but understandable.

I still remember the first time I was the target of his "spice." He was certainly someone who kept you on you toes and encouraged you to think think through your ideas before posting.

Yes.

That's the third time in this thread you have hypothesized that various posters left due to some terrible arguments or "contentious situation/posting" as you put it.

As human beings, we all adore secretive scandals.

But having been a mod and then admin here for over a decade, I found (much to my surprise) that furious arguments and unkind posts so hurtful that they led to a very active member stomping off in rage and never coming back, seem to happen far less frequently than most people suspect.
