Thanks, everyone - keep it coming! I haven't sent the email yet (it's not 4:59 yet)... I really appreciate the support and the next two weeks will be entertaining.

They can't even cut me off from the internet access because I have my team's pager right now so I need access... just a coincidence. I suppose someone could come get it but not likely.

I'm not leaving mad - I'm just leaving. I don't plan to leave a trail of carnage behind. Just a little mess because they aren't staffed for any shortage.

I've said for a while that they needed to feel some pain before things would get better there. I believe I am about to provide same.

Right now I'm kind of stressed - it's been very hard not telling anyone what was up and trying to work. Luckily I work at home on Fridays. Sooooo that has its advantages in this situation.

I'm absolutely certain of what I'm doing, but I am definitely stressed right now. It has been a rough year. Two more weeks and I'll stop having to think about it all.

One of my retired friends said it took her 2 years to get over the stress.

I suspect your life is going to improve dramatically in the near future. It does take a while to shed the stress (not sure I am completely done even after 7 months). It's sort of like an onion - - you peel off one layer and discover more beneath. But, the process is quite enjoyable.

Hi - I'm not worried about when the money shows up. There essentially is no pension worth noting. However, by working in July, my July health insurance is paid at the employee rate and COBRA starts in August, not July. Thus the decision on the date.

Good point. I did the same thing, inadvertently, when in 2007 I switched from working 20 hours a week to 12 hours a week, making me ineligible for group health insurance coverage. However, because I made this change on the second day of the month, I retained group health coverage for that entire month and did not have to go on COBRA until the following month. So kudos to you for realizing that beforehand.

Thanks for the detailed description of they whys and wherefores of your retirement. My personal experience is that DW and I spend less than we expected, so I think you are correct in your lack of worry about finances. We have the same attitude: if it looks like we are spending too much, we will cut back. No big deal.

No problem! I'm the cook in this household - as you are in yours. I grill, too. He likes to eat the results of my labors. I like that he fixes plumbing so it works out.

Well I took on the outdoor grilling duties because DH would be out photographing wildlife that time of day. So it was up to me to learn how to grill. What a great new culinary skill to master! So quick and easy once you learn the basics.

Congratulations! So glad to read your post and the details on how you have prepared this big day. I too handed in my resignation but had to give 2 months notice - one month left to go. I just sneaked a look at my work email and my boss is shocked, sad to lose me, etc. and we'll talk Monday.

So I guess I'll be working for the next 2 weeks and then NOT!

Thanks so much - yesterday was very stressful - I can be very manipulative when I need to be but I prefer to be open and direct - in this case, not a good choice. My real reasons are best not expressed at work.
