    Blow that Dough 2023

Bought a guitar. The last time I owned one was in college, and that was in the late 70’s. Hopefully with u tube I can give it a whirl.

Home insurance in Florida is out of control!

Ours went from $5,000 to $7500 for our homeowners, flood went up the max of 18%. We had around $40,000 of damage during Ian, our first claim in 10 years. Taxes are around $7,500, thank goodness for the homestead exemption’s. I can see where it will come to a point that wind insurance may...

What you actually spend vs planned to spend in retirement

Retired in 2007. Spending the first five years was on budget or below. The market tanking will do that to you. But since then we have been spending more than I thought. But we have done a lot more also. I didn’t think we would move to SW Florida, owned a plane for a while, or bought a house...

It wouldn’t be so bad if it was only another thousand.

    Blow that Dough 2023

Did some updates on the boat, new electronics and new engines. The electronics were just a want. I had some engine trouble with one of my engines when I was 50 miles out. So I decided to just go ahead and replace both with new. And went from 500hp to 600 hp.

What do we need to know or to buy that is somewhat unique to FL?

I moved down here in 2014. You may need one of these.

And I read that the pythons are migrating north out of the Everglades. And with climate change we are going to be under water soon.

They seem to like my ankles. We paid extra for no seeum screens to keep them out. We sit outside quite a lot and have no problems.

No seeums and mosquitoes. Also it’s that or a fence is required around the pool. A friend waited two years to get his home built and lost his cage during Ian. Before he could move in he had to put a temporary fence around his pool since the cage was gone.

The no seeums are bad down by the water in the summer. Other than that it really isn’t any worse than other places, a mosquito now and then. My wife actually likes company, but we have had a few that stayed a bit too long and we are careful not to invite them again. She recently made the...

    Florida living

As far as I know it has not flooded where I am, but we were concerned during Ian. We are 10’ above sea level, I believe the newer homes are required to be 12’. We have been here since 2014 and Ian was the only hurricane we’re we had any damage. We had about $30,000 in damage, but many around...

    Florida living

We moved down to SWF in 2014. I just never liked the cold, and the heat doesn’t bother me. We do have AC down here, and we have a pool and live on a canal for easy boating access. Crowds during the season are a problem, I’m starting to look forward to summer. Insurance is also a problem, you...

The White Whales - Perfect Credit Scores?

The wife’s is 834, I just checked. I looked at her discover card account. I don’t know what mine is. We’ve been married now 42 years and all the credit cards have been in her name. I’m just a add on. I’m the one that makes sure the bills are all paid and I guess she gets the credit.

    Big jump in Homeowners insurance

I live on a canal, and Ian pretty much hit us dead on, but no surge. I had about $30,000 in damage, my first claim. Insurance went from around $5,000 to $7,500. And I get a pretty good deduction due to wind mitigation. Wind deductible is $10,000. Flood went from $1,700 to $2000.
