I wonder how one factors in "extraordinary luck" into a financial forecast? Must be very difficult.

Mohegan Sun officials said the casino's net income in the third quarter dropped 89 percent compared with the same period last year, and they're placing some of the blame on gamblers' extraordinary luck.

Hmmmm. VERY unlikely, unless there were one or two really unusual payouts. Skimming is far more likely.

Funny business, this [-]gambling[/-] gaming thing. A customer drops a thousand bucks and there's absolutely no audit trail of how it happened, or if it happened. This has attracted unsavory characters to the biz . . .

Heck, that quote sounds like it was supplied by the marketing staff. I bet every down-on-their-luck gambler will be visiting them soon.

When they lose money, it's just a statistical reversion to the mean. But when they make money, it's due to motivated hard-charging execs hitting their numbers so that they can exercise their options!

The same phenomenon can be observed at Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac...

Maybe they offered promotions that improved players odds? Maybe they were hit by card counters? Maybe a gang of high tech cheaters tinkered with their machines and snuck away with all the cash? The should offer the story (or make up something better than this press release) to Hollywood and recoup their losses.
