The thing I always liked about the Derby: It meant the Indy 500 was coming very soon! The 500 has plenty of pomp and circumstance, but the Derby is pretty much ALL P & C IMHO. Having said that, I always watch the highlights on TV. It's well worth half an hour of my time and I understand how much many folks are drawn to it.

I went once with a friend who was really into it, to a track near Chicago one time.
Like 30+ years ago. And later to Hollywood Park in Inglewood, CA. Which was demolished for Sofi Stadium. It was interesting, but the time between races seemed interminable. Also I don't recall ever cashing in on a bet.
