Just thought I'd take a minute to share my big news with the good folks here at E-R.org. After many years of bachelorhood, I'm finally tying the knot with the most special, wonderful lady I've ever had the good fortune to connect with, and I couldn't be happier. We've been dating for several years and have been living together full time for almost a year now, and I popped the question a couple months ago. It was one of the most beautiful, joyous moments of my life. :flowers:

For many years, I wondered and worried if I'd ever find that special someone. And I have to admit that, once I crossed the 40-year mark and the years continued to pass, I was starting to lose hope. But I suppose in my case, that old saying really was true... all good things to those who wait. :)

That's great news! Congratulations and best wishes to you both for a long and happy marriage.

Congratulations!!. DH and I have our 49th wedding anniversary this summer and I hope you and your lady are just as happy as we have been!!

Wow, CONGRATULATIONS!!! and best wishes and all that. I hope your future is wonderful, full of love and companionship and joy.

Nothing better than spending retirement with the love of your life (waving at Frank!). All the movies celebrate the joys of Young Love, but it doesn't hold a candle to the love and devotion that older couples sometimes share.

I didn't even lay eyes on Frank until I was 52. But as you say, good things come to those who wait. We have been so happy together. :D

Congrads.... My 45th (anniversary) is coming up in a few months.... Would I do it again knowing what I do now :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:?

Yep............... Best of luck....

Congrats. Great to hear.

Edit - will add that IIRC you are at the 5m investible asset mark, so hopefully some protection of assets has been addressed.

Sojourner, we need details! How did you pop the question? Romantic candlelit dinner? On your knee? Did you give her an engagement ring? Are you having a wedding or will you elope? How did you meet?

Congratulations, Sojourner!

Wishing you and your fiancee many happy years together!

+1 , or you could do like we did, and just not marry. We didn't, mostly for estate reasons plus not wanting to live together or share our retirement money. Still we might as well be married since that's what everybody thinks (including us, we are firmly committed to each other after 21 years together).

Congratulations Sojourner!

This thread popped up on my portal as "I'm getting married" with omni550 near it and I was stunned for a brief moment as I have the impression that omni intends to stay a bachelorette. :D

Congratulations!

But I missed the link where we're supposed to go and fund your dream honeymoon.

Congratulations!!!

Sojourner, we need details!

 Happy to oblige! I was trying to give the Cliff Notes version of the story in the initial post.

How did you pop the question? Romantic candlelit dinner?

Yes, a home-cooked, romantic candlelit dinner at home, with our favorite wine, and some nice music and dancing right after dinner... before the actual proposal.

On your knee?

Yes, I did get down on my knee as I was asking her. She was so stunned and happy and "blown away", as she put it.

Did you give her an engagement ring?

Yes. She loves it.

Are you having a wedding or will you elope?

We're doing a small, outdoor wedding later this summer.

How did you meet?

We met years ago through mutual friends and had kept in touch off and on through the years. We considered ourselves friends, but not close friends, for most of that time. Reconnected in a deeper way a few years back, and then things just kind of blossomed, very naturally, in 2019. This is one of the aspects of our relationship I'm so thankful for... how naturally it developed. So, so, so much better than all these awkward, online dating/introduction services I've tried. I know they work for some people, but IMHO, the old-fashioned way is by far the best.

Yes, all taken care of.

I did give this some thought (not getting married), but ultimately I decided that marriage just felt like the right path for me. And I knew she wanted it, too. I feel quite confident it's the right decision for us as a couple.

That is awesome to hear! Next time I am in your neck of the woods (are they any left down there?) you will have to introduce me to the future bride!!! Congrats!!!

Thanks, EFB5! Looking forward to you meeting her and to seeing you again... and hopefully meeting your better half, too!
