Interesting websites

Here are a few sites I visit:

For electronic gadget info: https://www.cnet.com/
To learn about some computer security issues: Krebs on Security

Some interesting comments on investing: http://awealthofcommonsense.com/
Mossberg on tech: http://www.theverge.com/walt-mossberg-verge
Occasional interesting investing articles: Morningstar – Independent Investment Research

English language foreign sites for perspective (and for European travel):
Life & culture Archives - DutchNews.nl
Latest news reports on FRANCE, French politics and culture - France 24 - France 24
https://www.thelocal.de/

This site primarily has links to articles and opinion pieces from 'name' publications but also some smaller sources. It includes financial, science, energy, and other topics under separate tabs.

I'm usually "trying to get something done", and I like smart people without a lot of BS (which is why I hang out here, even though there's the right kind of BS here, hehe!)

Anyway, the stackexchange.com sites are a very good resource for finding out stuff.

Not at all similar to here, where we value "personalities". Over there, it's strictly question and answer format.

The original, and the one I got started with is "stackoverflow", which is all about programming. But there are TONS of topics now. And there are often experts that seem to be just waiting to definitively answer a question. Of course anyone can answer a question, but unlike the typical non-moderated board, you don't have to sift through a bunch of nonsense to find the answer (or even if it HAS an answer). Each answer may be voted upon. The best answer gets up-voted, so that it's easy to concentrate on what you came to find out.

And it's kind of fun to go on there and answer a few questions yourself and gain some reputation points.

Spent a good part of yesterday reading about password/passphrase security and confirmed my suspicion that what I had been using to protect my Veracrypt files weren't so good (was based off of song lyrics, but password crackers are onto that). So, ending up reading up on something called Diceware (mainly, creating more memorable passphrases using a real dice).

Which then lead me to a good password/passphrase generator website that I'd like to share.

https://passwordcreator.org/

Kinda like a one stop shop for selecting a password or passphrase that meets your needs. Minus the shopping part, as to use is totally free.

Oh, I've since changed my Veracrypt passwords to something more random :).

While not exactly a web site, google earth provides a chance to see a lot of places on the earth that you might not want to go to.
On you tube if you have time there are clips that show scenery along highways in the US and elsewhere, clips of rail journeys including some from the engineers cab, including ones on spectacular streetcar routes out of Innsbruck.
Then you can watch the retarded driver videos and see lots of car crashes (lots from russia), and trucks turning over, or in the US trucks repeatedly hitting low clearance bridges. (11 foot 8 inch bridge in Durham NC for example)

I don't use the website, but the IOS app is really nice. It has stories/videos that peak your curiosity. Lots of new stuff. I think there is an android app also.

https://theaviationist.com/

This one is for the aviation buff. Once more I use the app more than the site, but if aircraft, primarily military, this is a great site/app.

A bump to update the Decorah Eagles website.

Mom, Dad and three almost grown "babies". The nest is getting crowded... the young ones are now walking about, and spreading their 4 foot wingspans. Both mother and dad are very very busy feeding them... The "Fledging" is in progress. For those who are interested in this, an outline on the fledging process:

To watch this live...
Decorah Eagles, Ustream.TV: This is the Decorah Eagles nest, which is located just south of the city of Decorah near the trout hatchery. In shorthand, the ...

If mom or pop aren't there when you look, they'll be back shortly... Out hunting for fish or rabbits.

Quora

Not for everyone, but especially interesting for those with intellectual curiosity.

If you have a login, you can set up bookmarks like astronomy or earth science. Then go to those for some fascinating discussions.

I think the Quora site is a bit confusing to deal with at first.
