This evening we start a three day marathon of Christmas parties .Wednesday I plan on staying in my PJ's all day .

I went down to the city for church this morning with one of the other guys that lives out here. They did not have coffee and doughnuts after service. :( We had lunch at Rudy's BBQ and then back up to the mountains. I cut and stacked fire wood this afternoon. I am now sitting in front of the wood stove keeping my toes warm. :)

This is a weird day.

Don't feel well, dizzy like a fainting goat, so no gym.

I belong to a FB group of ex-megacorp folks started after the last big rif they had. Today someone posted if anyone remembered a particular guy from the 90s. I remember him, he was in an operational area, and was someone I w*rked with from time to time.

I remember the guy took his life some 24 years ago and how upset I was by it. He was a really nice guy who everyone really liked; no one realized how depressed and sick he was. Then he was gone.

Today I posted what a great guy he was and I missed him. I wasn't aware his stepmother was in that group. I guess it made her feel good to know somebody still remembered her son.

Now I got something in my eye.

Not one of my smarter days. Trying to hasten the defrost of my little under counter bar fridge. Chiseling ice buildup with a hammer/screwdriver - punctured a freon line. Oh well - it was 24 years old and not running well. Couldn't find a replacement today. Luckily I kept my kegerator from my brewing days. It holds as many bottles and cans as the bar fridge. We should be good to go for family Christmas tomorrow.

Heat gun or hair drier works good for that too!

Gym day, then what I thought would be an easy routine grocery run. I mean, anyone with any sense would have done all their Christmas grocery shopping by now, wouldn't they? Um, it turns out, no. The place was more crowded than I'd ever seen before but to their credit the store management knew what was coming and had every single checkout station staffed. Virtually no lines!

Took the now-thawed 25 lb. turkey over to BIL's, who is going to cook it tomorrow in his special countertop oven. We just had the turkey because they didn't have the room in the refrigerator for it to thaw.

Then spent 15 minutes or so on the phone with a credit card company trying to find out why they charged me interest. This is a guy who has paid about $5 in cc interest charges since 1983 and those were 20+ years ago. Turns out I'd transposed a digit on the payment last month and didn't pay off the total by about $50.:facepalm: Probably because I owned up to it (I bet those CSR folks get yelled at a lot) the nice lady said she'd credit the interest charge on the next statement since I always paid it off in full.

Sorry to hear that. I have a little 6 cu ft freezer that I have to defrost. I just put a couple of pots of hot water in for about an hour. That loosens up the ice, and I use a rubber spatula to get the ice off.

A hair dryer would work well here.

Today was crazy. We are going to DW's son's tomorrow. We have prepared the Pineapple Salsa and the wild rice salad,. We prepared 4 ducks for roasting tomorrow, They go in the oven at 7AM and are rotated once an hour for 4 hours They will be finished at her son's house for 15 minutes after the duck are glazed..
The think that griped me was there were no livers in the ducks, so duck liver pate was out. Instead there was the plastic bag of salt water and seasonings that we paid $6 a pound for:confused:

I spent the afternoon receiving chemotherapy.

I hope it's effective, and that next Christmas Eve you'll be able to report that you were engaged in far more pleasant pursuits.

Good luck!

Thank you! I fully expect next year end to be much more pleasant, but I'm in for a year of treatment (including chemo, surgery, and radiation) that started in October.

My best wishes. I hope this period goes by fast for you.

Watched the grand kiddos while DS went to the doc. DH is now putting the rub on the standing rib we got from Utah. Now it’s for a good nights sleep.

Autopay... no risk of fat fingering a wrong payment.

Finally in the recliner with my laptop, coffe and something tasty after 5 days of family holidays. Love my brother and his nice kids! But right now this is bliss.

So far, I drove home to Connecticut from Pennsylvania. The traffic through New York was not as bad as I feared.

Ever since I was a little kid the day after the holiday has always been my favorite . Chill out in your pj's with lots of leftovers and time to play with your presents .

For those looking for inspiration on post-retirement activities, how about this?

Frenchman sets off to cross Atlantic in a barrel

The better part of 60 years ago, just before I, as a young guy, started work on a remote dam in northern Australia, they told of a fellow who worked as a cook there, and as a byline would hunt crocs by standing knee/waist deep in the river, shoot them as they approached, and then grab them before they went to the bottom.

A 'different' type....who then decided to row solo across the Atlantic.

Apparently they lost sight of him after a couple days.....as Baretta used to say "And dat's the name of dat tune."

Yesterday I had an appointment with an ENT. Been fighting various flavors of dizzy for a couple years.

My PCP had overprescribed beta blockers, then added various alpha blockers in for BPH. While those experiences ended badly, other specialists had to get me off the meds causing dizzy. I'm very appreciative of the Urologist whose been helping her.

This guy really listened to my symptoms that I'd carefully documented and thinks he knows what is wrong. Unfortunately there's no place to run the test to prove it without traveling 10-12 hours. However the treatment is just taking a large dose of niacin for a couple months. If I can tolerate it, we spent a while discussing symptoms of niacin and ways to minimize them.

He thinks the fluid in my inner ear isn't being drained/absorbed like its supposed to. Causing many symptoms of vertigo, dizziness, and feeling my head is pressurized. I had one attack last week made me wonder if I was having a panic attack. He assured me that this condition could cause the myriad of symptoms I've seen.

Be careful of overdoing the niacin.

Thanks. I'm a little nervous.

However the other option was diuretics and with the problems I've had getting my BP stable he thought this was a safer place to start. We'll see.
