What is your pet peeve of the day?

Using Vanguard Message Center. I let them know I have the highest regard for Vanguard but it is 2018, not 1998. Here is their reply, in case useful to others:

“Thank you for your e-mail regarding the secure message function. I
apologize for the difficulty you have been having. I have connected with
our Web Technical Support Services Team who has provided some best
practices for using the secure message function.

Here are some best practices:

1. Refrain from using special characters like percentages, exclamation
points, and other commonly used special characters. This very often
conflicts with the function and will prevent a secure message from sending.
2. Do not use Mozilla Firefox to send a message. Mozilla Firefox has
recently performed an update a few weeks ago that has been conflicting with
our website. We are currently in communication with the provider to work
this out.
3. If you are trying to send the message from a work or employer network,
you may not be able to use all of the functions on certain sites. There
could be a firewall blocking the secure message function.

If none of these best practices help, please give us a call so we can
connect you directly with our Web Technical Support Services Team. They
will be able to take a closer look and even examine your system to improve
functionality.

If you have additional questions or would like to be connected with a
specialist, please call Flagship Services(R) at 800-345-1344. One of our
knowledgeable representatives will be happy to assist.

You can reach us business days from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Eastern time. You
can also visit us online at vanguard.com.

Kind regards,

Unbelievable.

People who define themselves by their irrational hatred of certain family members who have helped them all their lives. Who wreck their own lives so they can blame us. While others know them as a fun, caring all around great person.

Complex secure password requirements for sites that just don't need it. If it's not a place where sensitive information is discussed why do I need upper & lower case, numbers & symbols. I'm just not worried about someone hacking in to a site where we're discussing how to fix a lawn mower. A 4 letter word is good enough for many places. I don't mean here.

The McDonald's app has stronger password rules than Fidelity or Vanguard! Wow someone might steal my big mac!

In a similar vein, I hate websites that have special requirements for their passwords but then don't remind you of them when you forget your password.

ie: must contain a capital letter, number, be 8 characters long, etc...

Just listing the rules would be enough to help a lot of people out and would in no way be a significant security issue.

I agree with this, and any restrictions on passwords can create problems if you have a system for creating passwords.

OTOH, I would have thought Facebook doesn't need a high-security password, but recently we heard from our nephew: "Why is Lena (DW) asking for money? Is she okay?"

Turns out her Facebook account was hacked, resulting in embarrassment for her.

My point is that you have to be careful to imagine ways in which a site could cause you headaches if hacked.

I have a feeling I've posted this before but here's a peeve:

Things that aren't alphabetized.

These things are just in random order, really. Someone thought that Forum Admin belonged at the start, although it's the second-least visited.

It's faster to find the forum you want if the list is alphabetized.

Wikipedia:
In 1604 Robert Cawdrey had to explain in Table Alphabeticall, the first monolingual English dictionary, "Nowe if the word, which thou art desirous to finde, begin with (a) then looke in the beginning of this Table, but if with (v) looke towards the end."[7] Although as late as 1803 Samuel Taylor Coleridge condemned encyclopedias with "an arrangement determined by the accident of initial letters",[8] many lists are today based on this principle.

To me it looks like 3 groups.
Forum Admin and FAQ should stay at top.
FIRE topics stay at bottom.
Remaining topics should be grouped together in the middle alphabetically.
The 3 groups should be separated by heavy lines, and have different background shading.

The young ladies who use the big mirrors in the locker room at the gym for posing for sexy, provocative selfies in scanty workout clothes. There is a sign posted nearby stating that CAMERAS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE LOCKER ROOM!

I approached a girl about this today, pointing to the sign and telling her politely that she could lose her membership if an employee saw her. She looked at me with sad eyes and said, "But I can't take them out there because all the guys will sexualize my body." This said after she'd taken several rear view selfies, bent over and clad in a thong. She said it was ok because "it's my job, it's for Instagram". Kids these days!

These complaints are meaningless without pictures!!!!

I’m in a life painting class, models come in next week nude. I promised my teacher I won’t crack any jokes.

My cable TV provider (Spectrum, Charter Communications) just moved one my my favorite channels to a higher tier of service without telling me. When I called customer (no) service, the perky agent said for only $12/month more I could continue receiving this channel. I declined. So instead of raising prices, they are moving popular channels to more expensive tiers.

One thing I do is look for repeat programming on another channel than is on a tier that I am currently on and am willing to pay. Most of the time that is impossible, other times you can get lucky. I don't want to name the programming on the internet because if I did that with my luck the next thing I know, the programming on the other channel would go away.

There are a lot of channels that I would like that are on the next tier, but I am paying enough already and I can get by with what I have. Just keep your eyes open, you might get lucky. It's doubtful, but you might.

OK, my newest peeve (which I have had for a couple of months but not put down) is the crap that is sold in stores... they should be able to do better...

So, we had our bathroom remodeled... bought a couple of dimmers for the lights... one did NOT work... well, to be fair it did work but would not dim...

Bought a new one... good to go... dims the lights.. BUT, it has a small green LED on it to show where the switch is at night... and that LED on this one no longer works!!! So one dimmer it still is working and the other not...

Yesterday I noticed that the green LED on my GFCI plug is no longer working... the plug is working fine and when tripped the orange lite works, but push the button and the green does not come back on anymore...

I am not going to waste my time and money to replace them, but these LEDs were the last thing I would think would fail on these switches/plugs....

OH, edit to add... forgot about my DWs electric toothbrush... she said that the LED did not work, but it actually is... but it is almost fully covered as they did not get it in the correct spot so you can see... but if you turn out the lights you can see it easily in the dark...

I agree. Quality has gone down the tubes in many products. Sure, the store may exchange the product of give you your money back, but what about the wasted time and energy that goes into the process?

A few years ago I bought two new lamps for my living area to replace some old beat-up dingy ones. I ended up making three trips to the lighting store before I got two lamps that worked properly and did not have defective or bent parts.

I have not bought anything from them since that time.

My pet peeve is all the on-all-the-time little LED etc lights on stuff  We have 8 in our kitchen.

Older drivers who pull out in front of me. They have a stop sign, I'm going a nice even 40 mph. They pull out and wave then mouth "thank you" and speed off.
Usually no one behind me.
