Poor TV sound

We added a subwoofer to compliment the recent center speaker purchase, and we're both happy with it. My wife's sister is in for a holiday visit and the was blown away by the sound last night when we watched a movie, but they watch movies through the TV speakers alone, last night she heard the movie through 2 towers, a center, and a subwoofer.
