I hope to someday get that close to a moose.
From what I've read, such encounters often do not end well.
I think I'll take any moose photos with a telephoto 500mm or longer.

You got that right!! We have had issues with moose elk hunting. I had a cow and calf living in the willows one spring and you never trust them. Lol

It was 50 degrees and sunny this afternoon, so the young wife and I went out for a walk. We saw a pair of bald eagles in the tree across the street from our house. I don't know if they were nest shopping or not. It would be a good spot for it, but there are several other possible locations in the immediate area of the harbor. I would be happy if they did stay there, so that we could just sit on our porch and watch them.
You may want to rethink that.
My one moose encounter was 50 years ago in the north woods of Maine. I was driving a government station wagon with 5 or 6 passengers, it was late at night and we really wanted to get where we were going so we could get some sleep. For that reason, I was probably driving faster than I should have.
Deep in the woods on a country road, the moose suddenly appeared as we went around a curve. I slammed on the brakes as hard as I could, and we fishtailed, winding up sideways on the shoulder. The moose casually continued crossing the road. One of the guys in the car swore he was going to put in a claim on his travel voucher for new underwear.
We still had at least 100 miles to go, but nobody complained when I reduced our speed to a more cautious level.
Wow - quite a ride! I should be safer since I'll be on foot, and the moose should be in a lake. And I'll have my trusty Buck knife for protection.
We had our coldest night of the winter last night, with the air temperature at -4 F. and a wind chill of - 20 F. Minor pipe freeze on our downstairs powder room sink, which sits against the outside wall, but that was easily remedied with the hair dryer. It is supposed to be back to the 40s by tomorrow afternoon.
It could have been worse. On Mt. Washington in New Hampshire at 4:30am this morning, it was -46.8 F. , with wind speeds of 90 mph, for a wind chill of -108 F.
I have a long way to go as she had clothes going back decades. And the shoes kept in original boxes.....
Now that the kids and relatives have had a chance to go through DW's clothes closet(s) and take anything they feel they can use or wear, I spent the morning filling boxes with slacks, blouses, sweaters, etc to donate to the Montgomery County Women's Center for eventual resale.
The raised funds are used to assist/care for battered women in the County.

That's a hard job filled with a lot of emotions. Kudos to you for making it through.
Thanks, I was going to do more packing today, but I need a day or two away from this.
I don't blame you that is a tough task. I wish you the best. Thanks, I was going to do more packing today, but I need a day or two away from this.
