Signature Rules Update:
While the vast majority of board members are here to share and learn, a small but growing number of new members seem to be more interested in promoting their sites, products, and services. In order to protect our community from becoming a place to solicit business the moderation team is pleased to announce the following changes: - Up to six lines (including blank lines) will be allowed within signatures.
- Signatures will be allowed to contain one link, and that link may be personal but not commercial. We describe commercial sites as those which offer to sell services or products, and those with overt or highly conspicuous advertising (limited inclusion of small all-text google ads and similar links are considered acceptable in linked sites as long as they are not a predominant focus of the site).
- Links to commercial sites will be allowed in the member's profile.
- New members will be allowed to have links in their signatures once they have demonstrated that they are here in good faith; a minimum of 10 posts will automatically enable them to include links in their signature lines.
We hope that you will all benefit from the above, as we strive to maintain the non-commercial and down-to-earth quality of the board. For those few who had plans for their signature lines that are not in keeping with the above, we hope you understand the trade-offs we have to consider, and thank you in advance for your cooperation.
If you have any suggestions or feedback please feel free to comment in this thread.
Regards,
The E-R.org Team

Good rule change as 'stealth sig spamming' does seem to be a growing trend.
I suppose you will modify the sig lines of new/existing members who are not in compliance and don't make the change themselves?

Seems quite reasonable.

The intent is to message those not in compliance as we stumble across them and ask them to make changes. It will take some time to achieve our goal but hopefully this will cut down on some of the highly questionable links in new members signatures.

Hi gang. My links were taken off my signature today. I can understand the reasoning, but of course I should be treated differently Get your tissues out..Back in 2005 I gave Dory $115 to help support the site and keep that server(s?) humming. I was an idealist about the forum back then. When it was sold I was more than a little out of joint that Dory had "sold out" and the forum was now a business. I'm kind of over that now. At least that's what I've been telling my therapist. My links were a small effort to get some of that money back If I can't have my links, can Social Knowledge at least write me a check for $114.65 as soon as they can? ...

Hope you've got your tissues out as well. Rumor has it Dory took your graciously offered contribution along with all the others and invested it all with Bernie Madoff.
Your request will be forwarded to Dory who I'm sure will send you a check as soon as he gets his money back from Bernie. Watch your mailbox.

Say Wahoo, seeing as we go way back, I know you and some of the other suckers old timers would want to help a brother forum member... Right now I'm struggling with my webhosting bills since I'm not getting the traffic from ER forum anymore. Can you send me a donation - clicks on my ads also work(but only if the ad interests you! - I think I might have a Viagra one out there right now). In case you don't already have me bookmarked you can come visit by copying and pasting WakingUpToAnotherBeautifulDay.com into the navigation slot and you'll end up here: www.Wakinguptoanotherbeautifulday.com Googling Waking Up To Another Beautiful Day will turn up lots of results. I'm also at www.Dinersdriveinsroadhousesjointsanddives.com if you want to find a cheap eats place. It's not high art but it does keep me busy getting nothing done all day.
