Finding a new doctor

DW and I are looking for a new doctor since our long-time one moved far enough away to be annoying. But what is maddening is that our insurer's provider list is woefully inaccurate - lists doctors no longer at practices, says that specialists can serve as PCPs and that doctors are accepting new patients who aren't. Of course, the main problem here is that the insurer relies on the doctors to proactively notify them of changes, and they don't.

Based on a suggestion from a doctor's office we called (not accepting new patients), we found a promising candidate, but the "new patient visit" appointment offered was two months off. We took it anyway.

Our PCP has spoiled us. He gives us all the services of a “concierge” doc, but just charges for office visits and lab work which is largely covered by insurance. So we get the “concierge” service without the price. I’m thinking when he retires we may need to move to one of the concierge docs.
