To be clear, I wasn't advocating hiring a lawyer for a $150 issue, but rather, just telling the obstinate provider that they will be hearing from your lawyer.... big difference.

This probably won't do anything. Do you know how many people "threaten" throwing lawyers at an issue? And in the medical field? If it's a fairly large organization, they probably won't respond to threat like except that that they will stop talking to you.

Why Chat is a pretty prolific poster on creditboards.com forum.

I've used this system to get a paid (but very late, so still reported) collection removed from my credit report and it worked without a hitch.
