that damned Vanguard ad

Ads have never particularly bothered me - until now. That blasted Vanguard ad completely obscured the "Recent Threads" list one too many times, so I installed an ad-blocker extension for my Chrome browser. It works like a charm.

All it took was one ad to push me over the edge and reduce the functionality of a website, and I have now blocked all ads. Oh well.

I had to reenable JavaScript as I could not access Yahoo mail without it. So I will have to do something else to get rid of these ads. Checking on pop ups but I thought I already did that.

Mine's gone too, for now. There was a dreadful one of "Seniors' No. 1 Fear" with a picture of an ugly old man. They could at least have used a handsome old man, there are plenty around.

I've been getting a "Google Adchoice" ad on the entire top half of the screen that blanks out everything including the sign on and it is the devil to get around! This was happening in addition to the ones that were recently fixed.

I have tried to unsubscribe to no avail. I think it is popping up due to my internet searches on retirement financials, etc. It only pops up on the retirement.org page. Just FYI!

Disabling JavaScript will cause other problems with many websites. I would not recommend that. The better solution is to just use an Ad-Block extension with Chrome or Firefox. I've never seen an ad on ER.org or Facebook or anywhere else.

IMHO, Chrome is the best browser available. It's very "lightweight" by default, but can be customized for whatever your needs are. It also runs on Mac and all mobile platforms. An added benefit of using the Ad-Block extension is that websites load faster and are far less cluttered.

Adblock Plus has the filters for adchoice variations. It is the first extension I add to browsers, as without it the internet experience is unfriendly.

I've never had a problem with the Vanguard ad but this particular ad occasionally hijacks my screen and makes the site unusable until it gets tired of my refreshing:

I tried emptying my cache but it came back a day later. Any ideas?

Thats the same one I'm getting, MB. Almost every time I login in to ER.org on my Mac. I scroll down below the ad and click one of the ER page links at the bottom and the ad usually disappears after I bounce around the site once or twice.

It always comes back when I login later. Sorry I don't know of a permanent fix. I don't want to disable javascript. I may look into an ad blocker

Me too. I refresh until it goes away (usually three times does the trick).
