Earworms du jour

I am always afraid to click on this string. Too many ear worms.

I found this one by accident a few days ago, and I can'r get it out of my head:

Harry Chapin. Taxi and the later sequel.

Yeah, love that funk!

This one takes me back to Saturday nights at the skating rink. Gets the whole body moving.

That reminds me of a grim stretch in the early '80s when I was between journalism jobs and working in a bookstore to keep body and soul together. Outside the store there was an indoor skating rink where they played this song every 45 minutes or so.

It's pretty shameful the way Styx ripped off Kraftwerk in this video, but I think justice was served because Dennis DeYoung's histrionics look like a template for Bill Murray's old SNL lounge lizard character.

The video for this doesn't quite go with the song IMO, but maybe that's just because I'm used to hearing it as the intro to National Lampoon's "Vacation".

Today's earworm for me is 'We're a couple of misfits' from the CBS rudolph cartoon.

I don't mind if you lie
I'm not gonna ask where you've been
just come back to me

We watched Echo in the Canyon now I brought these two up from the depths.

I remember the Fifth Dimension charting with "Go Where You Wanna Go." Here's a charming video from the period, with young Casey Kasem as emcee.

One of the all-time great earworms from Harry Nilsson.

Neil Young and David Crosby ++1. Netflix has documentary "Echo in the Canyon" with Jakob Dylan. Takes one back to the best times of music.

I am glad this thread popped up today. This morning I woke up with *this* little ditty playing in my head. Why? I have NO IDEA. I promise I haven't heard this song in many years. The human brain is a magical, mystical place...

Crap, gave myself another earworm. After yesterday's post I played a few Rundgren tunes and this morning had this one running through my head as I tossed and turned...

Since yesterday I've had this one....(which can also expand NW-Bound's exposure):

I heard this for the first time in many, many years, and it stuck for a while.

That's only an earworm because it's so good.

As for Todd Rundgren, I agree that there is something about his voice that makes it earworm-friendly. I saw him perform once in Chicago to the accompaniment of an 8-track tape.

I like novelty songs, and here's one Rundgren and his group The Nazz did as a takeoff on Archie Bell & The Drells' "Tighten Up." Kind of an anti-earworm -- maybe it'll drive Todd away.

+1 on Paradise. I hadn't thought about that song in years until the recent John Prine mention on this site. 'Paradise' came jumping back up. It had been a previous ear worm also, at least twice

"What we gonna do now that Jody's gone? "

Carly Rae Jepsen from British Columbia:

The Waitresses -Christmas Wrapping. The current Nissan advert started it, but now I heard it in various stores.

Three Dog Night produced quite a few earworms in their day. I don't know if it's the reggae beat or the black/white juxtaposition that makes this one rattle around the brain pan.

I love those late Cash recordings. The title "Hurt," though, always reminds me of this oldie by Marianne Faithfull.
