NFL: 2020 Season

I knew that the game was rescheduled for today but 330? Just went looking for it and missed it. Just saw the highlights and didn't look like I missed much. One of the upsides of Covid is the schedule getting stretched out. I'm sure the players hate it but this week - two games on Monday and a game on Tuesday so far and then the Thursday night game.

So this I don't get. How come the NFL keeps postponing Steelers-Ravens but forced the Broncos to play yesterday without any QBs?

That's what everyone in Denver is asking, as they feel picked upon for being a smaller market. Apparently QB Locke could have played on Monday?

One cynical possibility is the the Broncos ownership is sort of weak right now and can't push back, and some pundits have observed over the years that the NFL gives deference to strong owners who push back hard. Because the Ravens case is very egregious, where the weight coach didn't wear a mask or his proximity tracker and then spread covid.

In addition:
- Ratings
- Marquee matchup
- Bigger playoff implications
- Ravens players reportedly threatened to strike if the game wasn't moved to Wednesday, as they could not get back into their practice facilitiy until Monday night.

The line "This is the business we've chosen!" applies to the NFL... :)

NBC owned the broadcast rights and had already committed to broadcasting the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting ceremony in the evening, so they had a say.

Ah, that makes perfect sense... did the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree lighting ceremony replace Heidi?

Yes now that you mention it I remember seeing that somewhere but slipped my mind. Again, it wasn't exactly a barn burner so no worries.

So I guess the Steelers will need to win all their remaining regular season and playoff games to be able to officially take the "perfect season" record away from the 1972 Dolphins. (even though they will need to play two more games than the Dolphins did :)

Anyone think they can do it at this point?

Nah, they started the game early enough so that a "cutaway" would not happen :D.

NFL Games All Week!

It looks like there's gonna be NFL games nationally broadcast (OTA) virtually all this week:

  • Today (Sunday): various games
  • Monday (two games): WAS @ PIT; BUF @ SF
  • Tuesday: DAL @ BAL
  • Thursday: NE @ LAR

Don't watch much but I did see the MN Viking game today. It was painful to watch them and ugly.

I looks like the Seahawk's Russel is starting to believe his own publicity. Not so good.

I know a 5-7 record is nothing to write home about. But just for today, in Seattle:

Well at least the game today (WAS/PIT) is available to watch... Last nights game was blocked for me.

The online Seattle Times sports section said that the afternoon game of WAS vs. PIT was going to be broadcast on local Channel 13, but it ain't happening.
It's on FOX NFL now... If you can get that! 2nd qt now and Pit just scored the first points of the game...

Well guys, it ain't going to happen now!

Yes a bit of a shocker. And the commentating crew bang on... 'this team isn't built to come back from a 14-point deficit'. Steelers had been 78-1-1 in games they had led by 14 or more all time at Heinz Field. Any given Monday! Ouch.

I don’t know for sure but I heard no NFC East team had beaten a team with a winning record and now we get NYG over SEA and WAS over PIT.

I don't know, the Jets still have a chance at a perfect season.

Coming from Detroit, I can only hope. Misery loves company.

The first year I bought Lions season tickets, was the year they lost every game. Of course they won all four preseason games, but it was terrible. I had bought in with a friend so the company was great and we kept it going for around 10 years, but it never got much better. A little during the Caldwell years, but still pretty bad.

The situation with NYG and WAS is improving. The other two NFC East are teams to beat up on now.

Coaching for both is improved over last year. WAS has no team name, a very good coach (Ron Rivera) and very experienced QB Alex Smith.

Remember, it's better to be an improving team with more potential. It's like the team buys into a coach's mantra and feeds off the QB leadership.

Lots of drama with WAS ownership and sexual harassment inquiry. Minority owners want OUT but Snyder has 1st right of refusal but only won’t buy out minority owners completely. I think he’ll win in court but NFL still might kick him out. Rivera is the real deal.
