Blow That Dough! -2021

Thanks. As alluded to, we wouldn't be in the market for a new vehicle, but a gently used mid 20 teens would suit us fine. I always hear good things about Subaru AND I hear that the loyalty to the brand is near the top. Aloha.
We don't own a Forester but tried out a few over the years but are on our 3rd Outback. Here in NH they are the perfect car with one of the best AWD systems out there. Fairly reliable, not crazy expensive etc, etc. Not sure there are very many Subarus in Hawaii though:cool:

Yeah, not a lot of call for AWD or 4WD. Still, we do see Subarus and we do have at least one dealer (heh, heh, shopped there for a used Toyota a few years back.)

Just wanted to update that I'm getting closer to "BTD". Things got moving forward again yesterday with the survey being approved. This wasn't just an ordinary run of the mill survey. This land had irregular boundary and consisted of a lot of work which was done on foot in rough country. So, finally getting things moving again is great, which I'm getting very exited for.

^Excellent! I can imagine that surveying in your neck of the woods would be difficult.

Yes, extremely challenging working off of homesteading legals etc. didn't help either.

Yes, when it comes to surveys, I would say "Trust but verify!" I've shared the story of owning a home but not owning the land under it because of a faulty survey. We got it straightened out AFTER we had already sold said property some 10 years later. Could have been a very bad scene. Oh, and the survey company wanted to charge us for redoing their flawed survey. You can't make this stuff up! Best of luck and looking forward to reading your entry when it's all done!

Hopefully they pounded in some big steel rods to mark the corners?

Well, for darn sure they did the SECOND time! IIRC they never could find the ones they had supposedly placed the first time. Since we had disturbed nothing, we had to assume they just screwed up - they tacitly agreed as they (eventually) dropped their demand for us to pay for the second survey. They did NOT however apologize for their error. YMMV

WOW! That is really a bizarre thing to happen. Title insurance I suppose wouldn't catch something like that either.

Yes, bizarre is the right word. This was c. 1981 and I honestly don't recall if we had title insurance. A couple of years after we sold the place, we got a call from our Realtor who sold it for us. He said something like "Uh, we have a slight problem. Can I drop by and talk." Not what you want to hear about the sale of real estate. So, fortunately, by the time he stopped by, he already had the solution figured out. A couple of weeks later we bought it back from the buyer for $1 and then fixed all the paper work and then sold it back to the buyer for $1. This was after the re-survey was completed. Much less hassle than it sounds like - except dealing with the jerk-face survey company. Heh, heh, our realtor told us later that he talked to the survey co. and told them "You'll never work in this town again if you try to collect the survey fee." They folded! It was then I decided I always wanted a realtor involved even though their fees seem "scandalous." YMMV

Bought myself a new kayak even though I already have 2 of them. This one is just nicer with a better seat and a much better keel. It paddles as if it's lighter than my other ones even though it's about 5 lbs heavier. Here it is lashed up before hurricane Ida rolls through ( it was fine) because we haven't figured out where to put it yet . PXL_20210828_185740698.MP.jpg

^ Nice!! I really need to get one. I have a canoe for the river but a kayak would be so much handier.

I just bought a new slider for my condo that looks like a French door and new bedroom windows for $4800. The old ones are 41 years old and they are difficult to open.

What brand and model is your kayak?
It is a Field and Stream kayak- Axe100 I think. I bought it at Dick's Sporting Goods. It's 10 feet long and about 50 lbs. It was $380 which isn't all that much, but my other 2 were really cheap so this one (3x as much) seemed like a BTD. I have used it several times and the difference in ride is certainly worth the difference in price.

Just spent $535 on dinner for 4 with my wife, daughter and future son-in-law. He asked permission to marry her at dinner. They have been dating for 8 years, so no big surprise but still a happy event.

WOW! That is very exciting and congratulations.

Anyway it was for us, when my son text his mother last fall and said, she said YES! Lol

Ordered up some more wagyu from Snake River Farms. (4) six ounce tenderloins, (1) 20 oz rib-eye cap and 2 pounds of burger.

Three hundred fifty - :)

Robbie, I like the way you think (and spend). Do you eat that great meat (and seafood from Catalina) yourselves or serve it for family and friends? Either way, that’s what I call spending money for the good things in life and will definitely be the way I spend in retirement when I get there.

Corn18, Congrats on the happy occasion and marking it with a great dinner celebration. That’s exactly how I will “blow the dough” in retirement when I get there (although my kids are married already) We love to mark birthdays and occasions with nice dinners!

Good blow and good news! Nice to be dining inside again too - :)

As to the wagyu and fish, just family so far.

This happened to us a few weeks ago in Portland ME. Flew up for the weekend (on points). Had to pay for 2 hotel rooms for 2 nights. My FIL paid for the nice lobster dinner. Future SIL asked my daughter in front of the Portland Head lighthouse. The BTD started then and hasn't stopped. A week later the kids bought a house. Of course we are helping with lots of little expenses. Last week DW and I were in Roatan scuba diving. Landed at DCA at midnight. 9 hours later I was on the baseball field for the first of 4 games. Long day. Gotta pay for these BTD moments somehow.
