Gearing up for camping, fly fishing, and photography. Sleeping bag, sleeping bag mat, waders, Camo shirts, duffel bag purchased. Just getting started. Need a fly rod, flies, misc tackle, tent, camping supplies, and probably more stuff that I haven't thought of yet.

Where are you heading, to do all that exciting outdoor adventures??

Fly fishing in the Driftless Area of Southwest Wisconsin and Northeast Iowa for a few days. Then come home for a week or so and then to northern Wisconsin for a photo adventure.

DW ordered a 13 pro max. And she got her case today. The phone is huge. A bit wider than a regular phone, but about 1.5" longer. I don't know - it seems too big to carry around.

That is awesome! I live in fly fishing country and never have done it. As much as I love the outdoors and all it offers that is one thing I need to do.

We ate the Costco Wagyu tenderloin tonight. It was really good, possibly the best steak I've ever had, but at $150/lb, I wouldn't say it was so very much better than a prime tenderloin. Everybody liked it, a lot, and I'm glad I had a chance to share it with the family. It's not something I'd get again. I might try the Snake River Farms.

Spent almost two grand today on…water.

DD and her family are using our Pocono house this weekend. Last night at 9:45 pm she called and asked “is it normal to run out of water?” We did some troubleshooting over the phone and determined it was beyond a DIY fix. Told her that we would call someone to come take a look.

This morning at 7 am I called two well companies, only one returned my call. Five hours later we had a new well pump and sundry parts, and the house had water.

DH is a little miffed at the cost, but what were our options? We’ve become soft, expecting to have running water in the house. *

I feel your pain. I dropped a similar amount last month to solve the same problem.

Yep. IIRC, about 10 years ago we paid ~ $1300 for a new pump install. And ours was only ~ 160' deep. So it depends on the depth, just takes more time to pull it up. They pull up ~ 10' at a time, then disconnect that pipe, pull another 10', repeat until done, then reverse the process with the new pump. Plus a couple DIY pressure tank replacements, but those are a couple hundred or less and pretty easy DIY.

Now that we are on municipal water, we pay that $1300 in about 10 months. Only had to pay for well service 3 times in 30 years, and the other times the bill was a bit lower (so < $130/year average vs $130/month now - water + sewage). But the new home is Lake Michigan water, so we don't need a softener - kinda nice to not have to deal with that.

Not sure if I can post here as I’m not retired yet (plan to be within 2 years) but today’s purchase definitely but a crimp in my retirement assets.

My wife and I went to our regular jeweler to get her jewelry cleaned for a wedding we attended tonight.

While there,he showed me a Rolex Sky dweller watch he had just gotten that he knew I have been interested in. It is white gold and white face and is brand new(he’s not a Rolex dealer but sells used and resale Rolex). I had bought another Rolex from him 6 years ago. He offered to “buy my Rolex back” for $1,000 more than I paid him for it and apply it to the price of the new watch. After some deliberation and encouragement from my wife I took the deal. Net cost of the new watch for me was $17k. It’s a lot of money but investing in a Rolex watch is an appreciating asset that can always be resold for more than I paid. I don’t think I will ever sell it and it will eventually be passed down to my grandson.

Yes, it is a significant and extravagant purchase but one that I felt comfortable making as I’m still working.
I guess reading the book Die With Zero has influenced my spending philosophy.

Road trip to Amelia Island, Savannah, St. Augustine. Most expensive hotel was in St. Augustine and most expensive restaurants in Savannah.
It was our first vacation together since late 2019.

I hope you enjoyed St. Augustine. Which Hotel, Casa Monica? Di you get a change to see St. Augustine Beach?

Yeah the 2nd time we have been to St. Augustine and yes correct the Casa Monica. It was more expensive than our typical hotel, but worth it and being right near St. George street. Their hotel restaurant food was outstanding.
We will go back again to St. Augustine.

We went to the Serenata Beach club as part of the hotel perks. It was very calming and at one point during the day, we were the only ones on the beach.
Didn't get to see the beach in your area.

Hayward is a great area. We're not going that far north - only to Viroqua near LaCrosse. I may try to talk DW into a mid October trip to Door County also.

Compared to just charging from a plug on the wall I get better charging speed and a sensor which lowers the charging speed when my mum use lots of amps herself. Stopping any circuit breakers from going off.



She does not drive. But both my brother and I drive electric. And some of her friends. And last quarter over 70% of new cars sold in Norway were pure battery ones. So it will be useful for many.

Seems like that's becoming true all over. I suppose it's one of the pent-up demands created by Covid. But a house where you really feel at home is probably a good thing to BTD on. Of course, if I ever considered a move anyplace, I'd rent first. YMMV

No credits. But the electrician had to add another line from the cabinet for this. And add surge protection which my mum did not have already.
