2022 Tax Program Deals

I see the last two years I have used TT Premier, but I live in FL. without a state income tax. I have IRAs, SEPs, taxable Mutual Funds, ETFs, mortgage interest interest received, HELOC interest Paid, margin interest paid, HSA contribution, dividends and interest.

Can I get by with Deluxe (Federal) download?

Yes

All packages have all the forms. The difference is just in the interview help. If you’re savvy enough to know what forms you need, like from prior year, you could get by with basic. I need Premier according to Intuit but I use Deluxe and just do a couple things directly on forms.

Fidelity Download

I'm not sure about the previous posts, but Fidelity really hid the download this year. I'm not sure if it matters, but I have over $1MM with a regular Fidelity account, but no paid services. What worked for me last year for the download doesn't work this year, at least for me.

It's no longer free for me, but the Premier version only costs $5 plus tax:

1) No longer free. The downloaded Premier version costs $5. On the Fidelity home page, search for TurboTax.
2) In the results window, click on the link: “TurboTax Discount – Fidelity”. Then click on the link: “Get started now”, then “Continue”.
3) Choose the Premier download at $0.
4) Don’t choose the next step. From the top menu bar, choose “Do it yourself”. Then “Doing your taxes with a “CD/Download”.
5) Scroll down until you see “Premier, Buy Now” for $5.
6) Delete the “TurboTax 2021 download for $110”. Finish buying TurboTax 2022 Premier for $5.
7) Click on “No Thanks” on the next screen. Enter your info. and buy for $5 + tax. Save the License Code and download the new TurboTax program.

Thanks. This is a more straightforward way to get to the premier desktop version than was posted earlier in the thread.

Nice try. I also have well over $1M at Fidelity in an IRA, but don't see that offer (it shows $90).

I was told by fido support that the $1M had to be in non-retirement accts.

I've gotten the free TuboTax offer for quite a few years and never had $1M in a non-retirement account. I was told by Fidelity Customer Service rep that the threshold includes funds in brokerage account, IRA, and ROTH but not institutional accounts such as 401k and 403b.

I’m thinking it might just be that the reps are given a good degree of latitude on who they give the offer to.

Well over $1 million in a trust account and about $300k in a tIRA.

Been getting it for free for at least 5-7 years but this year, it's only "up to $20 off."

I don’t have a rep. Received TT for at least the last 4-5 years.

You don’t have a rep or, you don’t use one? When I had significant funds in Fidelity, there was a rep assigned to me which was on all my statements and I never dealt with that person.

I don’t have one. My account is unassigned. I haven’t spoken to a rep in years. We have significant assets at Fido, we are VIP level and have been for years.

I bought the HR Block Deluxe plus State for $22.49 on Black Friday. Probably not the absolute best buy, but cheaper than I paid in 2021. It also has the Amazon gift card refund bonus offer, but I won't be getting a refund, so that is irrelevant.

I jumped on the same Black Friday deal last year for $22 but then saw numerous emails in Feb/Mar for deals in the $15-19 range from NewEgg and other sites. Setting a calendar reminder today to start checking for those deals in early Feb!

Maybe I don't have the offer because I've kindly told the 3 reps assigned to me over the years that I self direct, and please don't call me again.

And they've held up their end of the deal and not called. I wouldn't blame them for taking me off this golden list.

Such tzimmes over 30 bucks.

Yeah, so just think of it as $40 (because you can probably use Deluxe version) that you pay to NOT have someone call you.

Already bought it on black Friday. Let's make that $35.99.

I didn't fire Vanguard when they took it away the first year I would have been eligible for it. I'm not going to fire Fidelity for not giving me the offer. It is down in the weeds of noise.

It sounds to me like Fido wants to phase this out and are trying to carefully manage it because people get so cranky over it.

"If you want the TurboTax offer, you have to be persistent with Fidelity.
Call your Client Representative.
If that does not work, send a "Secure Message" to Fidelity through their contact page, asking for "Goodwill" to pay for it.
My spouse and I have received $100.00 goodwill to our Joint Savings account each year to pay for TurboTax."

We got the Goodwill money by contacting Fidelity after the first of the year (January 2022).
Have never received the free offer, even though we have over 1M+ in our accounts.

Well it is a nice perk, and they only started doing it because Vanguard was doing it, ha ha.

I do see the free TT offer this year as in past years on the first page without Beta.
My parents trust is in the 7 figures, as is my IRA retirement account.

I think it’s not so much about the money as it is the indignity of having to pay for SW to help prepare a tax return because the tax code is overly complicated and we as individuals really don’t benefit from the complexity.

We then have to deal with businesses like Intuit that have low ethical standards, and successfully lobby to dissuade gov’t from providing free tax prep and filing service.

^^^^ Yeah, for me it is not the money...its the fact that some people get it for free and others (like me) do not, even though I got a ton of bucks with them.

Ditto.
Here is a piece of news I have not seen mentioned in this thread. My rep's number 2 finally responded to my request for the TT link with a comment that the $20 offer is the correct one for my "service model".
Personally, I have never heard this categorization from Fido. Anyone else? He also did not offer what other categories there were in the "service model".
We are also diy but have always gotten TT before. Nonretirement balances well over 1Million and have been for some time,

I reached out to my account team and all I got was the link to the $20 discount. And then only a few hours later, an offer to review my portfolio/strategy with what is likely their AUM team. No thanks. I'm not unhappy with Fido, but given the number of years I've been with them, you'd think they'd be a little more generous. But I don't care enough to be a squeakier wheel. I'll just wait for another deal elsewhere on the net. I am ready to switch from Taxact, however, as they've just been increasing year over year with no significant improvement in interface or features.
