Busy day! Had to finish up some paperwork for a volunteer gig before picking up DS from the airport. After a quick lunch of leftovers, picked up our monthly bouquet from the neighborhood florist (beautiful as usual, and Christmas-y to boot) then prepped for a ZOOM meeting for the volunteer gig. Grocery shopping after that - a friend saw me in the parking lot on her way out and said it was crazy busy, and she wasn't wrong. I thought Tuesday would beat the holiday crowds but not so much. Took little dog for a walk then grilled a tri-tip and veggies for dinner while DS picked up DD from the airport. First family dinner together in nearly a year, so much fun. Unfortunately both kids have lots of w*rk to do for the next few days, so the kitchen painting project they were so excited to take on will be delayed, probably until Saturday. Just love living with purple painter's tape everywhere and pillowcases taped to the windows since I already took the blinds down! But it's worth it to have them both home with us for a week.

Up early and headed to my part-time retiree job at the rock quarry this morning. Business has been brisk as Contractors are using many tons of our rock to stabilize hillsides stripped of vegetation during this Summers wildfires.

Will get to the quarry right when it opens and there will already be a long line of trucks in the dark waiting at the gate.

Went to ranch and had to walk in because county pushed snow up in my access road. I wanted to get some SD cards won't be back here for about week now.
A few pictures from the walk-in a 3-mile trip. Not sure I will get to cabin till spring now but will use the line shack this winter when I spend days here. A lot of snow coming soon. A great day to be in the outdoors.

Beautiful pics, thanks for sharing them!

DGS, 7, coming today to visit while DS finishes his shopping.
We are baking and decorating Christmas cookies! Should be fun and messy :)

Today I have declared "The Calm Before Christmas" day for myself :). All mailings completed over the weekend. All local gifts purchased and ready to be put under the the tree Saturday. All food for the weekend's meals and social gatherings stocked in the house. No need to go anywhere. Will just putter around the house, taking breaks to watch stuff on TV and the internet, finish the Lego tunnel needed for the train around the tree, and just relax. It is warm but rainy outside, happy to stay inside today.

I sold my 46 year old vintage Vespa. I bought it 22 years ago with the intention of restoring it once I was retired. I took it completely apart when I first bought it and began body work and rust proofing but had to stop. As usual life gets in the way of plans made so far in the past. There wasn't going to be any more riding anyway which is why I sold both motorcycles weeks ago.
I potentially have more room in the garage so for the next few weeks I will be sorting out 40 years of "garage accumulation" to free up floor space, figuring out how to store what I decide to keep, and deciding what to sell and what will be tossed.

Cheers!

Shoveled some snow and just staying inside today because of a cold blustery day. Made a buttercup squash and roasted the seeds for the weekend. Our son, wife and GD will be here tomorrow for a day or so then out to her folk's ranch for a couple days.

The calm before the Christmas, like mentioned above, so savoring the solitude. Lol

Food shopping for get-togethers starting tomorrow evening. Costco was crowded when I got there at 9:30am and packed when I left shortly after 10. Next up is cleaning the house.

Cleared what little snow we had, about two inches, and was reminded of how easily that Ariens Deluxe 24" snow blower is to get turned around at the end of a row. About four years ago I gave a BIL the older snow blower because being a straight shaft axle it was an upper body workout to repeatedly turn around. Easier than shoveling but still a workout. The new one is so much easier to use it was worth the expense. It has a "sort-of" differential in it that locks up in a straight line but releases in a turn.

Oh, and the optional hand warmers that I installed on it late last spring (too late for snow) work well, even through the thick gloves.

The weather tomorrow is forecast to be brutally cold (for around here) with a low tomorrow night of 4°F. That's rare here. I did stock up on some gasoline for the generator should the need arise.

Little dog and I got our usual daily walk in this morning before the front hit - temp dropped from 53 to 30 in less than an hour, and it's now 28, heading down to the low teens tonight. Brrrr. Took DH to get a "man manicure" at his request (he no longer likes the way he can cut his own nails, and my technique even less) and I picked up paint at Home Depot for tomorrow's project - repaint the kitchen and breakfast room. After lunch, DD took a break from her online work and joined me to visit the local branch of Insanity, Inc. (otherwise known as Central Market) to finish up our Christmas weekend food and beverage shopping. Not a parking place anywhere in the entire shopping center. I thought today would be better than tomorrow but the checkout folks reminded me that everyone is planning to hunker down from the cold tomorrow and thus today was the crazy day. Fixing shrimp and grits for dinner tonight, yum.

Blew out the short driveway and then plowed out the long driveway. Loaded up the attached garage with firewood for the next few days. Tended the wood stove. House is a toasty 70 degrees while the furnace is silent. Wind Chill is presently -22 F.

Went out and had the car washed. Fifty five bucks. But the best thing was I was advised 2 hour wait and asked "still want to proceed?", yeah, wifey wants the car clean for dear daughter's arrival.

Walked across the street and had lunch and was happy to see the car being worked inside. Got lucky I guess, only about an hour and a half - :)

Gonna head out soon to pick her up at the Oakland airport by way of Castro Valley as we'll get some supper at Southern Comfort Kitchen on the way.

Sushi for lunch and fried catfish for supper...life is good - :)

Sounds tasty I wish they were there when we lived there....we lived in Castro Valley for about 10 years until 2005 when we relocated to Phoenix for the warmer weather and half off home prices... biggest mistake we ever made...miss the Bay Area a lot. So much to do there. Who knew our little 2 bed 1 bath house there we paid 180k in 1994 would sell for 825k last year....ACK......

I drove to Seattle to play cards with my brothers, and then visited with my sister for a while.

A day late but yesterday was beautiful day and haven't been to ranch for 8 days I decided to go. I went to remove a ground blind and check on the place. I sledded it out with a sled I built from skies. I had lunch at the line shack and enjoyed the day but didn't stay there long. It was an all-day trip when walking in, so no doddling allowed. I had 6.1 miles logged by the time I got back to truck. A very good workout with all the snow but felt good and relaxing. Had snowshoes but didn't use them but will the next time.

Today we got granddaughter for the day and night. Mom and dad have scheduled work they need to be at work for. It is Christmas vacation and is so hard to find babysitters and especially for times like holidays. So, a busy tiring day ahead but blessed to be able to help when we can.

Wifey took off to LA to deliver DSD back to work and I climbed up to the roof to blow out the gutters in preparation for the upcoming week of rain. Noticed the shed gutter packed also while I was up there and thought "hey, I'll just get the step stool and blow that out too". Silly thoughts.

Gutter pack was not going anywhere. A solid wad of wet leaves and mud. Dug it all out with my hands. Yuck!

Now enjoying a Nolet Martini to ease the pain - :)

As a teenager, I longed for a Lambretta scooter. I loved its form more than the Vespa. Both have a 150cc 2-stroke engine.

Now that I am old and can have one, it is better to reminisce about my youth than to relive it. We just cannot go back in time. It's sad.

This is a Lambretta.

NW-bound, There were quite a few students in HS that had Vespas but one person had a Lambretta. Those were the "Rolls Royce" of the scooters. Nice pics.

Cheers!

Yesterday, I got up and saw 6" of fresh sloppy snow. After blowing the driveway, the bernedoodle and I went for a much needed walk for her.

This morning, there's more fresh snow out there. There are several inches, and it's going to start snow tomorrow for a week.

Your granddaughter will always remember the special time she spends with you.

I'm pretty sure Granddaughter will remember yesterday! We made a snowman with a carrot nose and had a great day till we went sledding behind the house.

My wife, I and Stella were sledding and all going down the hill and DG fractured her wrist. It was a Buckle Fracture so she will be getting a cast for it this morning sometime.

We feel terrible about it, mom and dad just don't need to deal with this as there is about 5 weeks till new baby arrives. They have busy lives with demanding work loads so that is the other reason for feel so bad.

DG facetimed this morning and wants to come back and sled today. Lol Was nice to see her happy face today and not those sad eyes yesterday.

Don't feel like doing much today with what happened yesterday.

Will see if I can get a SnowDog bought if they call me back but will take some long walks and enjoy the outdoors.

Kids recover quickly, and the fact that she was happy and wanted to come back and sled shows how much fun she had!

DH birthday today, so kids are coming over and we are ordering take out from a local BBQ place.

Yes, children are resilient and this will be a Christmas to remember. Street, it sure sounds like you have a wonderful relationship with your granddaughter. Enjoy it!
