2023 workout thread

Worked out again the last 2 days:

Yesterday:
- pushups 6 x 25
- 4 x 20 flights of stairs

Today:
- seated rows 6 x 15

I don’t have a set routine just now but am playing more pickleball and have backed off a bit on all the Silver Sneakers workouts and counting steps.

My Fitbit tells me I’m getting a good cardio workout, but I suppose I should build in some weights and more than a weekly yoga session.

Wednesday-3 miles at 8:52 pace
Thursday-4x12 of 5 upper body weights and 3 leg
Friday-same as Thursday plus 5 minutes on the rowing machine
Today-3 miles at 8:43 pace. The times keep coming down. I'm sure it must be the leg exercises. The knee is still a little sore but it mostly goes away after the first half mile.

Great to see these comments which serve to keep me motivated to keep a healthy lifestyle.

My Fitbit data shows that I am on a 47 day step streak with a minimum 10K per day with most days between 15& 20K.

Moreover, My Fitbit Inspire 3 does not collect good weight resistance training data which is where I spend most of my time at the Gym.

At my age (66+), I am happy and 95% healthy, but at times I feel very slight hip discomfort which does not stop me from my daily exercise.

I had a lot of hip discomfort at one time. Found out that the elliptical machine was causing it. Now the weird thing was that it wouldn’t hurt for a couple of days after using the machine, so it took me ages to figure it out. Also, stretching poses like pigeon pose takes care of any sore hip issues now. Of course you might be different, but just fyi.

Ran 17 miles at 7:20 pace this morning as part of a speed test for a marathon in two weeks. The conclusion was that it hurt a bit too much considering 9 more miles from there.

Another year and a bit slower [emoji23]

Thanks for sharing, as I may have caused my hip discomfort pushing my limits on the Elliptical and or probably the Stair-Master.

The last 2 weeks, I am only on the Treadmill for cardio and hip does feel slightly better. Also started Piriformis stretching with hopes of ridding pain on my right side buttocks.

Yes, no elliptical for me since. [emoji2]

I rotate elliptical, walking, and swimming, and some weight machines a couple of days per week. I’ve worked out 6 days a since the start of the year, overcoming a streak of couch potato behavior. With back and probably hip arthritis.

The elliptical has not exacerbated any symptoms and my back pain has resolved with the increased exercise. Good posture and finding an elliptical with a 21 inch stride length helps. Also using your whole foot, not just the toes.

This week I’m staying in a hotel. I did 30 minutes of lap swimming each morning in the hotel pool and it was wonderful. I’ll mostly walking the rest of the week-going to some parts of the Smithsonian and walking for several hours. Yesterday I played bass flute for six hours. That can be workout, with the breathing and holding up a heavy flute. I’ve lost five pounds in two weeks. I hope I can keep up the pace. It seems to be self-motivating. Exercise makes one feel like exercising more.

Today: 8 rounds for time
15 pull ups
20 push ups
200m run
While wearing 12lbs vest
Time36 mins

2 days traveling and now home back to my weights. I wasn't sure how much to use since I've been doing pushups and using bands for the last 6 weeks so I took it easy:

incline dumbbell press - 5 x 10, 45 pounds
dumbbell rows - 5 x 10, 60 pounds

Sunday-day off. Didn't do my stretch routine but I should. Next time.
Monday-5 4x10-12 on upper body weight machines and 3 leg
Tuesday-3 miles at 9:03 pace. Doing 2 hours of yardwork in the morning slowed me down a little but still felt good. My knee felt fine.

I recently got into doing SEAL burpees, these will certainly spice up you regular work outs. Crazy how doing 50-60 of those can really get the heart going and improve your physique.

Took a rest day today. Raining and snowing so no bike riding and didn’t really feel like hitting the gym.

Mountain bike race Sunday so spent a couple hours knocking the crud of my race bike, replacing a tire and installing new brake pads … ya I know don’t hit the brakes when you race ‘cause that just slows you down.

Sitting in second place for our winter race series now and have my eye on the top step of the podium. Just gotta knock the 31 year old young gun out of first place!

Thursday-5 4x10/12 upper body weight machine exercises, 3 leg and 2 core. Funny thing is I was doing the core/back machine as a kind of rowing exercise previously. I should read the directions.

Friday-3 miles at 9:01 pace. Didn't feel so hot on this one. Maybe it's sleep or diet or who knows. Sometimes I think performance just goes in cycles.

That's what got me to join a gym several months ago. Self diagnosis, but it seems correct. Between stretching (not a lot) and the weights it's almost gone.

Well I decided to take a few days off from my previous everyday gym routine (almost a straight 4 months of daily exercise since I retired from work).

I now understand the importance of recovery time between workouts.
Pushing my limits has disrupted my overall health and fitness and now not at the gym the past few days which is very disappointing to me.

Took first at this weekends mountain bike race. Staged at the start line badly and got a rotten start, but off the start quickly ramped up the heart rate and worked up through slower racers. Led for the rest of the morning.

Currently treating myself to a nice warm jacuzzi.

No plans for a gym workout or recovery ride today. Will be back on that schedule tomorrow.

Hit the gym today for an hour of intervals on the treadmill followed by core strength workout. Later out on my gravel bike for an hour (10 mile) trip down to the river and grind back up (1,400 ft hill climb).

Same ole workout today. An hour of intervals on the treadmill at the gym followed by core workout. Back home and got out for an hour between rainshowers for hill climb workout on my gravel bike.

An hour of intervals on the treadmill and core strength workout after.

Picked up a nice set of carbon fiber wheels for my gravel race bike today.

Mounted tires on the new wheels and took them for a 10 mile test ride down to the river and back. Light, stiff and responsive wheels. Getting excited for the start of gravel race season this Spring.

A very easy low intensity hour of intervals on the treadmill today and that’s it. Mountain bike race tomorrow so treating today as a rest day.

I am a regular gym guy (avg 4-5 times per week) but the 2nd half of 2022 was horrible; I tore a rotator cuff (infraspinatus) in the gym in August and them did a substantial number on my back (improperly moving a heavy object) in November. Did my own rehab on the shoulder and it slowly improved. Chiropractor was useless in treating my back. It just took time and rest. As of February of this year, I am back in the gym 5x week. Feel pretty good but very careful of shoulder and back exercises! Very glad to be back ?
