I doubt we’re the target audience and your poll seems to agree. I can’t imagine why you went. Did you go see Taylor Swift too, even more hype…

Was gong to go see Oppenheimer but there were a lot of seats taken at the time I went... Barbie only had a couple of people in it...

Also, the big hype on this... and one of my sisters said it was OK...

Tuesday is half price margarita at the movie grill... funny thing is I was there when movie first started so did not get one

Visiting my sister and niece, we were all going to go. BIL and niece's husband step in and say: don't go due to certain thematic elements.

So we stayed in and played Catan instead.

I have to admit I learned more about my family, like that my nephew is competitive and will drop f-bombs at his 11 year old niece (my great niece). It was a fun night. :)

I was never interested in that toy landscape, so I have no desire to see it. Neither do our kids or grandkids. :)

DW has collected about a dozen of the "ethnic" Barbie dolls, but she hates the trend of injecting "adult themes" into the toy landscape, so will not be seeing it.

The one thing I did not like was the monologue during the last 15 minutes. That is the one thing which stunk in my view and was really out of place - for the movie itself, and how it was delivered. Right up until then I would have given the movie 4 or 5 stars, with the monologue 2 or 3. I commented to DW about that walking back to the car, and she said she didn't care for that either.

Was that America Ferrera's speech? Apparently some people found it profound based on other social media I've read.

I'm on the fence- it sounds like an odd mixture of feminism and consumerism and I'm not thrilled with the Barbie marketing machine no matter how many Doctor and Astronaut Barbies they churn out. I'd go see Oppenheimer first.

I thought I remember a time many years ago when there were lots women saying the whole Barbie concept should be banned because the body proportions of the doll were unrealistic and led to depression and other issues with girls. Now it's a thing again?

Raising two young daughters back in the mid 1980's taught me that a barbie doll flushed down a toilet will not make it all the way through the path of the flush.

I have trouble sitting through a good movie let alone a bad one.

I don’t think the target audience spends much time thinking about things like asset allocation, I Bonds, PPACA, when to take Social Security and so on.

Nothing wrong with that - being seventeen was pretty fun! Remember? :)

Well I see these girlie type movies with my DGF and Cable versions too. Fun for me and very comfortable in my skin.
As for the woke and anti male comments, just relax.

LOL! Gumby might make it........:)

Oppenheimer looks good, but if you hold it up the HBO Chernobyl miniseries, not so much.
That is a great series for nuclear thrills/fear/foreboding. The soundtrack was epic.

No Barbie, Taylor Swift, or Beyonce for me. Not a chance.

Barbie has nothing to do with Oppenheimer. I won't be seeing it, either. Maybe when I can watch it for free or streaming.

DW wants to go see it. We haven't been to a movie in years. I'm a good husband, so I'll probably go. I'm not wearing pink though.

Agreed, seemed like weird comment from OP. I mean, some people will want to go for the fun of it, but I'd think those people know who they are. I'm certainly not the target audience, but if/when clips make it to youtube, I might check out some of the scenes with Margot Robbie, she's something.

I liked it all, the movie, the music, the speech. Both stars are so fun to watch. I did play with Barbies a bit growing up and my younger sisters did for sure, so that helped. My MIL, RIP, was a huge Barbie fan too and I still have a few of her Barbies. Barbies' clothes were very cute.

I recommend the old BBC seven episode series on Oppenheimer. I believe it was broadcast in the early 1980’s. Same Waterson made a very good Oppie, as I recall.

Sorry, I don’t know of any BBC or PBS series on Barbie.

I expect that we will go see it at the senior matinee showing next week.

We hit discount day this week. There were some funny parts. I probably tuned out most of the monologue. I was curious about the negative reaction in some circles. I didn't see anything to get riled up about.

Curious on what weird comment I made...

It was not my first choice of film but it is very well advertised, mentioned all the time on TV and has high ratings... I like going to see movies in the theater and there are not enough good ones to see...

BTW, I had thought about it for awhile and it seems that the message is confused... spoiler alert...

At the end to take back everything that the horrible men 'stole' they went into what I would call dumb woman mode... they tricked the men to be able to get the women back in line with Barbie World... and this was supposed to be empowering to women?

Also, the actual Mattel board is 7 men 5 women... not all white men as shown on the movie... which BTW was shown as stupid white men...

Don't make too big a deal out of my comment. It's just that on the face of it, from the previews and the hype, it seems obvious that he movie seems to appeal to a certain target audience. I just wouldn't think anyone would go based on it being "highly rated", or be surprised that they didn't like it. It just sort of seems like a "what you see is what you get" sort of movie.

Like a Taylor Swift concert - if you like Taylor Swift, you'd probably enjoy the concert. If like me, you find her " eh, not my cup of tea - music wise', then you just aren't going to bother to go. It's pretty obvious what you are going to get.

A bit off-topic, but it kind of reminds a few years back, some movie critic was commenting/complaining that the recent movie titles gave you no idea what the movie was about. Then he kidded, now when you see a movie titled "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter", you have a good idea what you are in for. Cracked me up!

Later, I read a few (guardedly) positive reviews of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter". We decided to take a chance, watched it, and liked it. It wasn't campy, it was actually a serious view of Lincoln fighting these demons (vampire slave owners) as a part of his life. I won't go so far as to recommend it, but if you approach it with an open mind, you might enjoy it.

May see Barbie if it comes to a streaming service that I use. I heard, which makes sense, your age and/or life leanings will dictate quite a bit how it is perceived.

But, you mentioned Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" which is right up there with my all time favorites. The Book is 100x better.

cd : O)
