What supplements do you take? Benefits?

Zinc, vitamin D3a, magnesium citrate, for the past 15 years. Recently added Lyons Mane capsules. I grow my own mushrooms as a hobby. I dehydrate and power them, then use a capsule maker to produce quality vitamin pills. Lyons Mane is the latest superfood with properties that aid the brain.

Calcium enriched with Vit D

Vitamin D, because PCP tells us to. And our Vitamin D comes back good on bloodwork, so we keep taking it...

Nothing else, never have. DW takes daily probiotics, she's convinced it helps.

Yeast, malt and hops. Taken with water.

Benefits unclear. More investigation needed.
Me too, although not as often as in the past. I've found some manufactures make a much better product than others too. (Tried most of them over the the years) Also best to keep well refrigerated until ready to consume.

Walmart Equate brand Men's age over 50 multivitamin. Seven cents per day. Have been taking a multivitamin of some sort since I was a kid as my parents brought me up that way and I continue the tradition. My grandma (a nurse) lived to 100, my mom to 97 and my dad to 90 years old. All were vitamin proponents.

The daily aspirin thread going on prompted me to think about the small fistful of daily supplements I take. Contrary to the NYT articles, all of which seem to say “It’s a waste of money,” I’ve benefited. Mine currently are:

1. A One-A-Day multivitamin since my 20s. The first thing I noticed was some warts on my hands disappeared and have never returned. I can’t specify other benefits but so far, so good.

2). Vitamin D, because I live up north where one can’t get enough through sunshine. It’s supposed to help with mood but I don’t know.

3). Biotin makes my nails look healthier.

4). Turmeric/pepperine. I’ve been doing this one for 2.5 years in an attempt to address my lifetime of borderline triglycerides readings. The effect has been nothing short of dramatic for me. For the first time in my life, the three blood lipids panels I’ve had since I started this are all entirely normal.

What do you take, if any, and have you seen tangible benefits?

That’s amazing! I take Vitamin D because it’s needed to process calcium due to osteoporosis.
Fish Oil
Pine Bark - antioxidant which we’ve been taking for about five years. Neither one of us has had as much as a sniffle.

Vitamin D
Vitamin B-12 (Prescription)
Vitamin C
Fish Oil (2,560 mg Omega 3)
Potassium (Prescription)
Magnesium
Zinc

All under doctor’s orders.

Niacinimide and Taurine at night. Gives me good sleep :) Sometimes a few others. Including aspirin on an empty stomach and K2 if i start to notice any bruising from the Aspirin.

i try to take all supplements without bad exipients.. my go to site for research https://www.toxinless.com/

^^^^^ Interesting. I would have assumed that aspirin on an empty stomach would increase the chance of hurting the stomach lining. Not the case, eh?

A couple of DW's relatives have, from time to time, attempted to sell us special vitamins, magic supplements, de-oxidants of some sort, coffee with mushrooms (yes mushrooms).

Same pitch all the time. We will feel wonderful, young, live longer, etc right up to and including warding off evil spirits. All the bad chemicals will leach out of our body via our feet if we buy the magic powder.

DW always cuts them off at the pass. FDA approved, who did the 'study', my physician does the recommending, why is not sold at Costco or other pharmacies, why is the cost 5X. Buzz off.

I take D, C, and Iron, The only one I know works is iron. I no longer get rejected for blood donation do to a low iron reading.

I am not sure D & C make a difference in my daily life. DW thinks so.

Nothing.

Years ago I started taking a daily multi-vitamin, and fish/krill oil. I didn't have a reason to start this other than thinking that it must be good for me. After a year or so of taking these, I decided that I don't want to take any pills daily for the rest of my life unless I had a really good health reason for doing so, so I stopped.

DFIL became like that, sadly, and it was annoying. It was some multilevel marketing deal, in which he seemed to spend mostly his own money. Some people take a good thing too far.

I forgot one. I'll take mega doses of Vitamin C for a day or two, as soon as I feel any sort of "cold" symptoms coming on. Seems to help a lot, usually.

Collagen peptide powder in my coffee every morning.

I stopped when I finished a big tub a few months ago and within three weeks I noticed the difference in my knee joints.

I use the Orgain or the Vital brands usually, whatever Costco has on offer.

None, unless my wife's chocolate chip cookies count as a supplement.

We have made an effort to minimize processed foods, making our meals from scratch and sourcing many ingredients from garden, orchard, and area local producers.

Psyllium Fiber capsules. It provides incredible improvements to my regularity. I'm sold on it.

Psyllium fiber (regularity/cholesterol); krill oil (cholesterol); multi vitamin for women over 50; cal/mag/D; a stool softener; lysine (if I don’t, I get cold sores). Most were doctor recommended. Recently added at the rec of my doc: blend of lemon verbena/hibiscus flower/green coffee bean extract/mag called HiPhenolic (cardiovascular and metabolic support):

- Mult-Vitamin for men over 50
- Vitamins A, D - to address deficiencies detected in blood tests, they have raised the levels to normal range.
- Iron - was borderline anemic at times, and rejected half the time for blood donations. Not any more.
