ARS Technica reports T-Mobile will change plans on some users without prior notice, moving them to a higher priced plan, effectively raising prices on these users in November. Article here

The forced migration surfaced on Reddit two days ago and was confirmed by The Mobile Report, which published portions of leaked documents indicating how the plan changes will be implemented. T-Mobile also confirmed the change to CNET, telling the news site that "there will be an increase of approximately $10 per line with the migration."
According to the article, one must call to cancel the change. Customer service reps are being trained to discourage a change.
The leaked documents show what customer service reps are being trained to tell users. Instead of saying the price is going up, reps will say, "We are not raising the price of any of our plans; we are moving you to a newer plan with more benefits at a different cost."
This will be fun to watch.

From what I've read, they will move you to a new plan with more features and a higher price. But you can stay on your present plan and price if you ask, although going forward it won't have all the bells and whistles you currently enjoy.

Sounds to me as if they are breaking their old standing promise to let you keep your plan forever, but I'm sure they will be able to get away with it.

I have a One plan, 11 lines for $215. The upgrade to Go5G would be almost $200 more per month based on their website if I select to upgrade my account. However, I just saw that there is a document that's been shared which shows the change is $5 per line for this plan change. Regardless, the additional features aren't worth paying anything additional.

Notifications are supposed to go out on October 17 with the change implemented in November, so I would not be too quick to say it's 'without notice'. This is noted in the original Reddit thread and in the TMO article linked above, among others.

With that being said, as a T-Mobile customer I won't be affected because I am already on a different plan, but this has already created a huge stir for those affected, and it's just the beginning.

You have a source that mentions this? Everything I've seen is you keep all current features but won't see additional features added in the future.

No, just a quick review of the notices I've seen online. That was my initial impression of the change, but since none of us have received the official notification yet we'll all have to wait and see.

Ah, ok. Thought maybe there was some other "gotcha" that had been announced. With the TMO internal documents that have been shared it's been pretty clear what we'll be expecting. Thanks.

I’ve read a couple articles about this. I can’t yet figure out if it will apply to me or not. I have A Magenta 55 plan. I see these listed as being affected. But, specifically, I have the Magenta Max 55 plan. And I’ve seen some references saying that only the specified plans listed will be affected and it lists Magenta Military as an example that is not affected. So does that mean Max plans are also not affected because they aren’t specifically on the list? I guess I’ll find out on the 17th.

I will opt out if affected. I see no value in the “better benefits” to the plan they want to move me too.

I have the same question because we are on the Magenta MAX plan. The consensus so far is the MAX plans are not affected but we'll have to wait and see. Even if it's not in this 'upgrade' plan, I'm sure we will get roped into this at some point in the future.

I went from T-Mobile to Mint Mobile and saved about 47% per month. I did drop from unlimited data to 5 Gigs per month which is plenty for me. And Mint Mobile uses T- Mobile lines.

So no difference in service.

But, T-Mobile recently bought Mint Mobile and I'm concerned they're going to start raising prices. So this thread validates my concern.

Hopefully none of this trickles down to Google Fi, which piggybacks off of the T-Mobile's network. Our kid has us join them on Fi, which for four lines is $20/line plus fees and taxes for unlimited data, texts, and calls (US, Canada, Mexico). DW and I are paying roughly $48/mo for our two lines.

Thanks for the heads up on this.

We have the Magenta 55+ which is one of the ones being "migrated with a price difference" 2 lines for $70/mo. It's been great but I feel we could get by with less capacity if needed.
The change would be a huge increase in price.

I will follow the steps to opt out.

We've been with T-mobile for just over 2 years and we still have a few months left on our "buy one get one free" credit for our iPhone 13s.

It’s annoying because we start our travel period on Oct 17. But I’ll call if I need to. Waiting to get an email first.

I'm also wondering if tmobile will raise mint rates. Here's a quote I found

"As part of the acquisition, Mint and Ultra's founders -- Glickman and Rizwan Kassim -- will stay on to "manage the brands." Glickman tells CNET that Mint's rate plans "haven't changed and are not going to change going forward." He also said the company has been working to add value to its offerings by including more data or international calling at the same prices, not taking things away or raising rates.

He teases that more will be coming to Mint and Ultra plans even before the T-Mobile deal closes, with a "very big announcement" coming within the next two months that he says will benefit all of its customers. "This is all about how we can continue to bring more and more value to the customer at our existing price point."

I have been very happy with AT&T prepaid plan, $25 a month, $300 prepaid for a year. It looks like it has become a better deal since I got it near two years ago.

Thanks for providing this information. They did raise the plan I was on from 4 gigs per month to 5 gigs without raising the price.
