    Grocery Shopping

Thursday, there were almost no eggs and no store-brand shredded sharp cheddar. Today, I was able to get plenty of eggs (on sale even) and 4 lbs of shredded sharp. (also on sale $3/lb.)

    Tricare + Medicare ? Plus employer's insurance?

Yes, these boards have given me many insights about IRMAA. And the cliff. Your story about your Dad was relevant. However, I wish I had paid attention to IRMAA several years prior: my 2019 income will determine my 2021 level. Why didn't I do Roth conversions in 2017 or 2018? Sometimes...

    Tricare + Medicare ? Plus employer's insurance?

Before I turn 65, I'm trying to figure out all the pieces for medical insurance. DH is younger, and still working. He will probably continue the 'family' insurance with his employer while our youngest is still a college student and not yet 26. But, when that's not a factor, it's possible...

    Grocery Shopping

You're right about the convenience of Sam's Club free shipping. Right now, I have a partial cart set up. As soon as they get Rotel tomatoes in stock, I'm going to hit the 'BUY' button. I kind of like the excitement of refreshing my screen a few times a day to see if my out-of-stock items...

Poll:Your feelings of happiness during this health crisis?

DH is working from home. DH is ambitious. I am [-]not ambitious [/-] lazy. :coolsmiley: DH is radiantly happy working here. He pops out of the office so we can eat lunch together. I clean up lunch and take a nap. The dog squishes under the bed for his nap. DH doesn't complain; he...

    Grocery Shopping

Once upon a time, I found great sale -- b/s chicken breasts for $0.99/lb or something like that. I asked the meat manager why the price was so low. He said that they had ordered 3 cases, but the warehouse had sent 13 cases. I wonder if your store had something similar going on.

    Grocery Shopping

Also, the Kroger curbside pickup has been wonderful, especially when the middle-aged staff (who can tell good lettuce from bad) are picking out my order. The young guys are generally a bit more erratic  Last time, I had to in to the store for a prescription, so I chose a few items that...

    Grocery Shopping

I cannot believe how well the Sam's Club 'free shipping for Plus members' has worked out for me. Since this started, Sam's has shipped me walnuts, dried fruit, honey, OTC meds, tomato paste, TOILET PAPER and YEAST! Still have a few items on the way -- Oreos, wet wipes, and coconut milk. Since...

    Why are you frugal?

My parents were raised in the Depression, and I'm sure that had a strong influence. However, in my teenage years, I read Gone With the Wind and got scared straight. Sudden poverty, taxes, and disruption. (In addition to the horrors of war.) Scary stuff.

    Why are you frugal?

I don't understand this... Is it due to good investments?

    Grocery Shopping

I've got to go into the store to pick up a prescription tomorrow. Since I'll be in the store anyway, I'm going to pick out my own produce. I'm so excited! (cue Pointer Sisters.)

    What's next for hoarding?

Was able to order yeast from Sam's Club today. Now they're out. I've been checking 3 times a day. This morning out-of-stock. Today at 3 pm -- available for shipping. Tonight at 8 -- out of stock. I've been using the tail-end of a 2-pack from Sam's bought maybe 5 years ago. It works...

    Grocery Shopping

We had the same sort of experience at Sam's pickup. But I became a plus member some time ago for lower prescription costs, and Sam's free-shipping-for-plus has worked out well for us. Except for yeast. I even got a shipment of TP from Sam's since this all started.

    Can't/won't get that any more

What are you making from all the food?

These are the regular, cured spiral hams. We smoke them at 225 for extra flavor. When I texted DH "How many hours should I smoke the ham?" he replied: Thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt...

What are you making from all the food?

A few weeks ago, I scored two spiral hams at Sam's Club. {sell-by date is a month or two from now.} I plan to smoke them on Saturday and use them as the basis for numerous meals: ham slices/baked potatoes split pea soup (DH just found a bag of split peas in the baking basket ??? on a...

    Shopping and restocking updates

I guess I just got lucky. ;D Last time I ordered paper towels from Sam's Club (free delivery for Plus members), my order was 1 pack of paper towels 2 packs of cookies. They sent me 2 packs of paper towels 1 pack of cookies. When I called to tell them about the mistake, they sent the cookies...

What are you making from all the food?

Tonight I roasted bone-in chicken breasts (bought on Saturday). We had chicken, Brussel sprouts, and red bell pepper soup. I encourage the family to eat leftovers for lunch, or when they prefer leftovers instead of my dinner plans. Right now, I have leftover chicken fried rice, (1...

How have your expenses changed with the Corona Virus?

More for me: DH bought a new computer and a large monitor so that he could work comfortably from home. Also, groceries....my frugal brain kicks into lizard-mode in the grocery store: I need 5 items to get the discount, so I walk down extra aisles to find the 5 items. Need to send other...

Social distancing / stay at home - love it or hate it?

DH, talking to his father, said, "At last! I can live according to my nature!" DH and I, both introverts. Except for the grocery issue, would be content like this for a while. MIL, (age 88), is antsy. We are trying to phone her more often.

    If you were self-isolating ....

All good here -- 3 introverts. College DD (on spring break) is organizing her room. Finishing assignments. And gaming. DH is getting over a cold; he's been happy watching TV, reading books, and taking naps. I've been surfing the internet, knitting, and taking the dog for short walks. (plus...
