$400 Billion Futuristic City to be built by 2030 - Interested in Living here?

Funded partly through government grants? So that basically means, "We, The People" are paying for it, whether we want to be a part of it or not?

From what I gathered from the article, that was a speculative statement from the rich guy behind this.

The whole project sounds implausible to me, but I’ll have my popcorn ready if they ever break ground.

Interesting concept - egalitarian access to health/education/driverless cars... Green energy... Ok - that's cool. Locations likely - meh... Not a beach in sight. I'll stick with coastal SoCal... I need my beach walks. LOL.

I don't know why, but this just popped into my mind...

"Sometime in the 23rd century...the survivors of war, overpopulation and pollution are living in a great domed city, sealed away from the forgotten world outside. Here in an ecologically balanced world, mankind lives only for pleasure, freed by the servo-mechanisms which provide everything. There's just one catch. Life must end at thirty
unless reborn in the fiery ritual of carousel."

The problem with utopian cities, is that it takes completely 100% altruistic people to live and work there. And you will never find such people.

I'm still waiting for my flying car that they promised in my copy of the Weekly Reader in 1955.

I'll pass.

Out in the desert somewhere?

Didn’t Jim Jones try this? Just don’t drink the Kool-aid!

I hope the rich people live there.

I have yet to see an attempt to build a "paradise" community succeed. People are people :).

Whatever happened to Arcosanti? I visited there about 30 years ago. It was more or less a construction site.

I wish that they had named it “Rapture”.

Yes, it turned out badly, but so did Los Angeles.

I hope the rich people live there.

I think that place is called “Austin”. Rich people didn’t usually get rich by subscribing to some kind of new group think, like “equitism,” whatever that is. How can someone think that other people, especially Americans, are going to adopt their dogma?

Still there:

"Arcosanti is open to the public seven days a week from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. Visitors may shop, relax, and gather in the Visitors Center free of charge. We encourage visitors to take a resident-led guided tour of our iconic architecture and grounds. To learn more about tour times and costs, visit our Tours page.

Arcosanti is closed to the public in observance of the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas."

Any estimate that starts with a round beginning of next decade or two number gets an eyebrow raise from me. 99% of the time this means they are pulling the number out of thin air and actually have no clue of when, if ever.

Reminds me of the old quip that socialism and Christianity are two excellent ideas that have never actually been tried.

No.

Looks like the beginning of a Twilight Zone episode to me.
