During last years World Series parade a couple of the Houston rappers were on the float with him and Bun B kept pointing at Mack . They said Mack won 7 million. ..It’s funny , he is against a casino in Texas because he would be there 24/7 .

He has the record for dollars being bet... but it is not gambling for him... it is to win the money to pay everybody back if the Astros win the series... it is cheaper to bet than to pay insurance money..

But you get a credit back for any refunds... and that is refund of money...

Just like if you take in a coupon for 25% off... you pay taxes on the 75% cost to you... not the 100%.

I'm not so sure about that, it was a gambling bet and my friend won the bed. So he owes sales tax on it. just like winning in Vegas.

Is it? If that is so then the people need to put it down as income on their federal tax return as gambling winnings..

It is an interesting question... is that a bet (which is illegal in Texas) or a discount on the purchase price if something happens...

I would bet it has been run by his lawyer...

As a person who may have known someone who got busted for selling drugs back in the day, I can guarantee that just because the income came from an illegal source, you are still required to pay taxes on it. Or you will be charged with tax avoidance along witb the trafficking charge. Doesn't seem fair or right, but that's the way the gov't works.

Yep, that is how they got Capone...

Since the Twins won a playoff game for the first time in 18 years the local Twins newspaper columnist has declared the Twins season a success already, no matter what happens in the ALDS with Houston.

And herein lies the problem with Minnesota sports fans. They have been conditioned to accept moral victories and just "getting to the playoffs and see what happens" for so long now it's become a personality trait. It's pathetic. You won't see this attitude with Astros fans. Or Phillies, or Dodgers, or Yankees, or Red Sox fans, etc.

I don't see the Twins beating the Astros. After all, their season is already a success.

Mack sent him a 1099 for the winnings, I just saw him at coffee this morning and asked him about it.

Mack can get away with a lot of stuff here in Houston and Texas.

AHHH, that would then put it in the gamble winnings or misc income.... even though it might not be considered gambling by the law.. probably considered a 'prize' like a game show or something...

And of course no tax back as the state got that..

Well the Rangers and Astros both won today although the Astros sure tried to give to away when they took Verlander out.

Well, if you watched the 8th, you saw the rangers try pretty hard to give it away. But it’s typical white knuckle bullpen stuff from the rangers. Especially Aroldis Chapman. Somehow it all worked out.

Overall, pretty pleased with the Rangers!

Nice win for the Phillies. Go on the road and take one from the Braves’ best starter using pitching by committee.

The Astros are a veteran seasoned team . They will fight claw and then fight and claw some more . Besides you still have a chance to get 3000.00 free furniture if the Astros win it all .

Yep, he does it every year... makes good money doing it from what I read...
I'm sure he does.... Seems to me it's almost a foolproof way for a business to make money even if millions in free "stuff" are given away sometimes. In such a case they would create tons of free publicity and goodwill supporting the local teams as well as establishing a long term returning customer base. That's the Vig or Juice (gambling parlance). The risk can be dealt with in layoff bets. I suspect accountants (and lawyers), in such positions, have run all the numbers and traps. Smart.

the twins are a new young team. the past losing streak means nothing to them. great game last night, evening the series at one game a piece.

You are correct on all points.

However, my point was that the attitude of the press and the fans around Twins Territory is that they've already achieved plenty this season and should be content no matter what happens from here on out. I'm not sure what the attitude of the actual players are, however, manager Rocco Baldelli has been quoted several times as saying, "our goal is to get to the playoffs and see what happens."

Well, that goal has been achieved. And I can guarantee you if the Twins end up losing to the Astros or the next team they face in the playoffs, the team's fan and press coverage will be happy with the result.

Really competitive teams don't say, "let's get to the playoff and see what happens." Those teams I mentioned before, the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Dodgers, etc. start out with the goal of "let's win the World Series." Anything less for them is not acceptable.

Going to the Twins game tonight. Ready to bundle up, temps in the low 50's.

In addition to bundling up be sure to wear gloves.

I don't see a good outcome for the Twins. The Astros hitters are too good. Starter Joe Ryan will likely be done after an inning or two as Baldelli goes into bullpen mode. But, you never know...
