DW likes to have the subtitles on when we watch a DVD movie. I don't like it because I can't help reading the text, which means I spend less time watching the movie itself, miss subtle facial expressions, etc.
I try as hard as I can to not read them ("Don't look down, don't look down!"), but after 20 seconds or so I'm once again reading them.
This is one reason I'm not eager to get a new TV, since I know DW will want the closed captioning on all the time.
Are you able to ignore them?
