Update: With the pandemic, I actually did not retire until 7 31/2020. So far it feels like a long weekend! Guess it will take a while to sink in. That's ok, I've got plenty of time!!
I feel your pain. A month after I left covid hit and they let everyone work from home, the one thing I wanted to do. Then 2 months my last day the sweet severance packages came out.
Oh well, haven't missed it at all, maybe the money but probably don't really need it anyway.
So call it beerista FIRE if you want.... Whatever you do, wish me luck! I'm looking for that kick in the pants to leave the golden handcuffs in this COVID/election year economy.
I talked with my favorite brewery's owner briefly this weekend and just emailed him my resume (one of my post-FIRE desired "have fun and make money places"). I'm arguably FI but a bit nervous about the state of the world (which is why I'm still w*rking now) but having a fun "job" with some income as a hedge would make me jump now and also would be less of a burning bridges moment since I can say I'm changing careers instead of "FU" (even though FU would be so cathartic).

Nice, I received an offer from a buddy who is the brewer at one of our local breweries. He asked if I would be interested in helping a couple of times a week in the brewhouse for a nominal $15/hour. At the time its on the back burner, as I suspect my time would be better spent helping our DD negotiate online high school. Feeling a step closer every day and have the email to my boss written... only have to hit "send".
On the plus side, the brewery is only about 10 minutes by car and maybe 15 bicycling, and they have a charging station in the adjacent garage, so free fueling while I work.
I am presenting my departure as an ER, and would not want to give the impression that I am leaving for a part time job in a brewery. They have been pretty generous the last few months, and I should be happy to have a job. Unfortunately things are so slow that that seems to be my final nudge... better to ER than sit on my hands all day.

I pulled the plug today. My last day at work will be this Friday August 28, actually a month and a half before my initial plan (October 16). We have basically reached a point where there is almost no work to keep me busy day to day, and my managers came in with a 12 week training plan to keep things busy for me. I felt it would be disingenuous to start twelve weeks of training when I was planning a departure in 6 weeks. Its somewhat cathartic, and my boss seemed to take it well. He is just as aware of how slow it has been.
My focus now will be getting our daughter through the 10th grade as successfully as possible. Wish me luck with Algebra Trig...

Yeah... about that pandemic.... We're still learning more every day and still don't seem to be a whole lot closer to knowing how this all ends. But, I'm (still) hopeful our brilliant scientists will figure this out and the world will find some level of normalcy... someday... soon?

Sorry to hear about your parents' declining health. I think a lot of us "early" retirees can relate to that, unfortunately. My dad turns 80 in December, but he's been 90+ physically for the last 5 years or so...

BS buckets are funny things. They're kinda, sorta annoying as they slowly fill over time, and then, one day, they fill up and you just HAVE to do something about it!

Draggon - please add me to the list as "Retired 6/26/2020. I left quietly with little fanfare in this Covid environment. Past 2 months have been wonderful...even if I can't go anywhere other than grocery shopping and Home Depot/Lowes.
