While it's nice to be missed...being FIRE'd is so much better! Congrats!

Tell us what *you* miss… :) Congratulations!

Old Medic, there are any number of pictures of a sun shining on a bridge to a path vanishing into a beautiful woodland. Email one back to them!

So far I have been busy meeting people to celebrate my freedom. I assume this will die down in a week or so. Regardless of anything else, I am really happy I did this. The weight off my shoulders is immense.

I am planning on boxing up my house and moving in the next few months but somehow that doesn't bother me. Not knowing where I am going to end up in three or four months is fine. Really shedding the w*rk has made everything else more tolerable.

Yes I had the same experience the first week - huge relief but a lot of celebrations. Week 2 started to feel more real.

Good luck with the move. With no w*rk on your plate you can take your time with it.

caninelover, are you going to stay in SoCal? You may have mentioned your after FIRE plans in another thread.

Glad to see you're enjoying your first couple weeks of freedom.

Boom! FIREd on January 28th at the age of 49. I was going to stick it out another year or two. Then I looked at the projects on my schedule for this year and decided I didn’t want or need to wait another year.

Yep, staying in SoCal! Staying exactly where we are as we love our home and the area! No plans to move, unless (eventually... hopefully way down the road) health dictates otherwise...

Oh nice! Congrats! So nice to have choices in life, right?!?

I totally understand that feeling!! If I am going to do a project, it will be one of my choosing and not yet another w*rk one.

I feel the same way. I like my home & the area where I live.
Are you keeping busy now that you're retired?

Some days yes, some days a little, and some days not at all. Today was an in-between day. Dentist appointment, a few minor tasks around the house. Went out for a run in the afternoon, then a nap before dinner. Watched Olympics after dinner. Honestly it's nice to handle simple things like a dentist appt while being so unrushed. Thoroughly enjoying these days!

8 working days left. 3 weeks at 2 days, then 2 weeks at 1 day. Projects handed over, so in a backseat supporting role now. I’m finding it easier 8 working days left. 3 weeks at 2 days, then 2 weeks at 1 day. Projects handed over, so in a backseat supporting role now. I’m finding it easier than I had imagined to release the reins of my projects. So a relaxing few days left.:)

Used my company wind down day off today for going to the gym and a 10 mile walk, with a long lunch in between.

Woo hoo! Very exciting. I have moved from counting months to counting weeks - 24 left. Went 3/4 time 9 months ago and that helps to alleviate impatience, but how was the last 3 months for you? Is patience really hard to find? When did you make your announcement?

Class of 2022 update

Changed from XX to Sept 2022, but leaving the door open to an earlier rage quit since my successor is in place and can handle it! 24 weeks countdown!

It's not final yet, but I am planning to change my retirement date to June 2023 from June 2022. It's primarily financial, as my pension made a big jump from 2021 to 2022 (19K) and then another big jump from 2022 to 2023 (12K). It's just a lot to leave on the table. Plus, it pretty much solves our medical insurance issue (in 2023, dh can start medicare and I will get 4 years of free medical premiums, taking me to medicare as well).

I have mixed feelings......on the one hand, I know I should be excited and wanting to retire ASAP. But with only working a 50% contract and being able to flex my work days each week, it seems crazy not to wait.

Well, it is official now. Despite the jump in pension, I submitted my paperwork for retirement yesterday. It really came down to, working another year gives me more, but then what about the year after? My pension would go up again. I just decided that we do have enough, and enough is okay.

My last day will be June 1 and I essentially have 30 days left to work (since I'm already part time.

I know I'm leaving money on the table, but I am really excited. Not ER, as I will be 60 when I retire, but done nonetheless.
