Decided it was time to put this in a spreadsheet with "important" (hah!)

We expect nothing less!

Article in Mashable today about how Wordle can be downloaded enabling free play.

I was skeptical, so I did a page save as in Chrome, blocked Chrome by firewall, and the game worked with today's word. We'll see if the word advances.

Today was tough for me. My first "6".

You see I had 4 yellows in the first 2 guesses, and I'll tell you they were all 4 different letters. A word popped into my head, so instead of going with my usual letter elimination word (conservative approach), I used all 4 plus one (bold move) and it was wrong. And my normal third letter elimination word was no help. Then it came to me and I realized there were 3 possibilities that I could see, so I constructed a letter elimination word on the fly and that let me solve it in 6. Going for the "3" cost me my first "6"

Playing some of the past Wordles and after 2 guesses, I had 4 letters in the correct place. However, there 5 possibilities left for the last letter with only 4 tries.
Knocked out 3 possibilities even though the guess was clearly wrong. Sounds like this is what you would normally do.

Got it in 3 today, and pretty quickly. I think I'm getting better with strategy. I had 3 yellows on the 1st and 2nd guess, but for my 2nd guess I really concentrated on getting those yellows in different positions, and high freq letters in the remaining 2.

This was probably covered earlier, but I checked again in a private window:

“HARD MODE” NOTE: GREEN is strictly enforced (must use that letter in that position).

“HARD MODE” NOTE: YELLOW is *NOT* so strictly enforced (must use that letter but it can be in the same position - that will not be the answer though).


Once I get a good match, I don't do much more analysis. At that point, I figure any good word is going to do a lot of elimination, and when it comes down to the final word, it's probably equal likelihood, as it is a random pick from a dictionary. IOW, I would say "EIGHT" and "FIGHT" have an even chance of being the final answer, even though E is more 6.6x common than F.

I would say "EIGHT" and "FIGHT" have an even chance of being the final answer, even though E is more 6.6x common than F.

I'd have to go back through the Wordle's that came down to the multiple guessing game such as "eight", "fight", "might", "right", "sight", to get hard stats, but whenever I'm given this choice I pick the noun over the verb or adverb. Thus "eight" would be my pick over "fight". This strategy seems to have done me well.

"Fight," of course, is also a noun.

Yes, you're right, of course.

I should know better having done umpteen hundred crossword puzzles and considering the noun or verb status of the clue is imperative.

Still, I'm sticking to my strategy of choosing nouns over verbs in Wordle when it gets down to guessing. 'Eight" strikes me as being a noun far more than "fight" does.

The word advanced, so indeed the entire word list, all days, is inside the javascript, so downloading the page does allow continued play. But the browser cache is not maintained, so your results are not tracked.
