When I got the power of attorney form signed there was only one original copy.

Selling the house I had to send the original to the town and wait a month and risk losing it. They would not let me bring it in by hand and register it.

Now getting ready to sell the car DMV is telling me I need to give the original to the buyer to show them when registering the car and trust the buyer to return it.

Wish I had signed two or three copies so I would not have to worry.

I am almost to the point of selling to myself, paying the sales tax, then. Selling the car just to avoid losing the original POA.

Some groups will treat a "certified copy" the same as an original, might be worth investigating.

Thanks.
Seems a bit of work but worth pursuing.

My cousin told me that automobile transfers between family members are not subject to sales tax so look into that as well.
