fired 9 years ago. Now doctor says I have alzheimier's

how do you dance around this one.

Oh I am sorry to read this.
As with any health issues, keep up with medical care, healthy diet, some exercise.
There have been many advancements with Alzheimers and treatment.

Spend time with family and friends. Live life as best as you can.

Have you done life planning in the past, ie POA, Advanced directives, healthcare POA?

Thinking of you.

Very sorry for this news, bingybear. It's OK to grieve the loss this diagnosis brings, and also important to do everything you can to enjoy each day, whether it's a good one or a tough one. I hope you have good support from family, friends, and medical folks.

I agree with everything that Pacergal stated above.

I am extremely sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I would also try to do whatever you have not done yet, that is important to you. I am hoping that the advancements they have made, will affect you in a positive way.

Hugs to you and your DW.

I am so sorry. I hope you are getting a second opinion and also that you are being seen in an academic medical center where they will be on top of the current treatments and research

I am so sorry.
Please get your documents updated, instruct your relatives about your wishes and where to find important documents and stuff and get yourself on the waitinglist of a specialised care home.
Then go on with your life and make the best of every day.

Sincere sympathy. But there is really a wealth of information available today about symptoms, treatments, care, etc., so please take advantage of that now. And start seriously looking into what may be in your own part of the country first. We're all on your side.

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I was with my mum when she was diagnosed and know how tough it is. This desease progresses at its own pace, which could be slow or rapid. If yours progresses slowly you still may have good years ahead, which gives you time to prepare and to enjoy life.

+1 to both pacergal and old medic.

The doctor chaced the wrong diagnosis for 2 years.
They finally use a lumer puncher.

Is a lumbar puncture a conclusive diagnoses for Alz? With my mother we all noticed her getting forgetful, and after eliminating some other possibilities (with blood tests, i think) she took a series of memory tests which showed her decline. I don't believe she had a lumbar puncture but my siblings went with her on her medical appointments.

I am so sorry to hear that you have this as well. All I can do is echo what others have said, get all of your stuff in order and get someone as POA and walk them through it all because you will not be able to handle it as the condition worsens, nor will you recognize that you are no longer competent to do so. Set up medical POA as well so you can choose if/when you want a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) and if you want other treatment stopped. Do it now because there will come a day when you don't know you need it and it may not be granted if you are no longer cognizant of what powers you are granting someone else on your behalf.

I'll add my best wishes for your situation.

You probably know that there is at least one pharmaceutical treatment available. I forget the name. I'm sure your doc is on top of it. I hope you hold your family close and let them help you through this challenge.

God's blessings on you. Check back often.

My best wishes to you bingybear.

Try to incorporate the best medical care with lifestyle tweaks to support your health. The field is evolving. Make sure you have good social interactions and support.

My prayers are with you! Set up a routine with your loved ones to see and speak with them regularly.
