Has anyone seen any promotions on turbotax 2016 yet? Does Fidelity and Vanguard offer discounts to their clients? So far everyone seems to be charging full price.
 
You'll see a number of discount offers in about a month. A bit too early yet.

Yes. Not only that, typically at this time of year the TT program is not yet ready to run and requires updates before it can prepare a return.
 
This is the first year I cashed in my old US EE savings bonds from the days of payroll deduction through w*rk.

Does Turbotax Deluxe handle the event of cashing in savings bonds? Or do I need the higher version of Turbotax Premium? Thanks.

You should receive a 1099-INT for the redeemed savings bonds. As long as your version can handle a 1099-INT you should be fine.

The last couple of years I have been getting Turbotax Premier from Fidelity for free.

Before that I got it from Costco when on sale. Sometimes Amazon matched that price, sometimes not.
 
Unless it changes for tax year 2016, having any online bank account with State Farm Bank gets you free Turbo Tax. I keep a $500 one-year CD with them, but I believe a mere $100 savings account suffices. The interest rate sucks, but at this dollar level it truly is a minimal difference, more than made up for by the free Turbo.

Thanks. TT Deluxe handles 1099-INT fine. :)
 
Best deal I have found is Waoocheap:

2016 TurboTax - Waoocheap

They only sell downloadable versions but TT2016 Deluxe is just $29.99.

I have downloaded & installed the program, but have not started using it yet. Various sources have confirmed that the Deluxe version does include Schedule D.

My Fido rep has never offered me any free or discount version.

I'm very leery of discount sites like this. Most likely it is an illegal knockoff. Maybe you're getting the same product for a few buck less, knowing that you are probably cheating Intuit out of their cut. That may not bother you, though you could have trouble getting support from Intuit if you need it. But maybe they are inserting a virus along with installing TurboTax. Maybe they have even found a way to get a peek at your return, including your SS# and other personal information included in your return.

None of this is worth saving a few bucks to me.

Sounds good to me. I'm certainly in no rush to start thinking about my taxes, so I'll wait until we have confirmed sightings.
 
Years past I would buy TurboTax as soon as it came out - only to kick myself when promotions started up in January. Not that I could do much with TT before getting all my forms in, either. This year I'll wait.
 
Not in alignment with the thread title, but I downloaded H&R Block from Amazon and my taxes are done already. Well, there are a few estimates, but by January 1, I'll have the final numbers. But I "needed" the software to allow me to see how various year-end strategies played-out.

Point being, I felt it was worth it to just buy it, and have it! And if I choose to take part of my refund as an Amazon gift card, they increase it by 10% (up to $500, or an extra $50).

And the software is $30, and $20 for "Basic" which would probably suit most situations.

I agree wholeheartedly with what is stated above.
 
+2 I somewhat unknowingly bought TT from a site like this last year and saved $20 or so as I recall. While I concede that it worked flawlessly, including filing 5 returns electronically, I was never comfortable with it so I'll go with a known site and pay a little extra if I need to this year.

I used to subscribe and have the annual TT CD delivered right to my mailbox until discovering that there was a premium to subscribing and being prompt :mad:.

Now I usually wait until the first price slashing after the holidays and don't do my taxes until baseball season is about to begin.
 
For the 15 or $20 you'd save, I wouldn't risk it.
I suppose I'm old-school, but I prefer the physical disc anyway.

I posed this question at the TurboTax website and a respondent thought TaxPros was fishy as well.

What I find frustrating is that Intuit does not publish a list of approved sellers of their product so we can avoid these fly-by-night outfits.

You would think that they would want their customers to avoid the fly-by-nighters but if they did publish a list then we could shop around for the best price and it would pressure them to meet that price with their direct to consumer sales.

Who knows, that place could be a front for stealing your personal and cc information.

Wait until around the new year, I bet Amazon will cut the price to around $39 like last year.
