i read the description of your travails to dw, who said in her past life she used to do that thorough job regularly. Now, since she does not ovulate any more, it has fallen by the wayside and she wants to know if it is that time of the month for you?;d
Hey!! :D:D:D

We saw the Broadway touring musical "On Your Feet". It is the story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, and their journey from life in Cuba to becoming pop music stars in America. It had great singing and dance numbers, but the story was kind of haphazard, since it was bit and pieces of their lives and not a fictional story with a clear arc.

We had a good day yesterday. My husband finished painting half of our kitchen, so half of the kitchen center look brand freaking new. Spent the afternoon opening up one box from our garage where I believed it has our long lost fine China. Sure enough it was. Almost 15 years after we did our first move from Bay Area to Southern California, we finally found our China.

Decided people who say they can live on $12k can't own a car. Need rear struts replaced, which caused my back tires to wear (luckily they are pretty good with warranty) but still costing me $100 each to replace... so $400 for struts, $200 for tires.

Live in the south and AC went, $1000 for the electric clutch to be replaced. I tried for 2 weeks, no way, 95 every day, can't deal with it.

Oh an my seat belt slammed in the door the other day, no biggie... so it dented the frame at the exact spot the sensor for the car door is and now my car things the car door is always open. "fixing it" with some tape and hoping it holds, else I'd need body work.

Needless to say I'm sure I'll be putting $2K in to the car in 1 visit and thats with coupons. Really hoping to get to 150K miles on this car before turning it in but its starting to tick me off.

DW and I went to the state DPS today to renew our driver's licenses. Both run out this month and no online renewal is granted . We arrive at the Mega - DPS location in north Houston this afternoon where there are no less than 300 people waiting for services. But we are prepared with "online appointments" generated by the DPS website. We feel honored to be so privileged!

We get to a desk and the lady sees DW is sporting an oxygen concentrator and has two hose ends stuck up her nose. Oh my, you are special! We get super tickets with special numbers on them and go find a chair (which there are none open). A nice Oriental couple volunteer their seats and I let DW sit while I stand with the DH of the offering couple.

About 30 minutes pass and DW's number is called (earlier than the appointment time) and she's off!! :flowers:

Since I was handed a special ticket (I was DW's escort of sorts), my number get's called too.

Hey, this is all good, except for the angry stares from 300 people who have been waiting for hours in front of us.

I pass the eye test and get my renewal with flying colors!!:D

DW, not so much as the "oxygen tube in the nose" giveaway requires her to take a driving test (next week). She is not thrilled. Parallel parking must be done to pass!

One the way home, DW says if she can't pass the driving test (and parallel park), I will be her chauffer for LIFE!

(I said the DPS will just keep rescheduling the test until you do pass....(I hope))

I went to Winn -Dixie which I hate but I had a $10 off $40.00 coupon so I went . I felt like my bill was a little high . I checked it and instead of charging $30 for shrimp that were buy one get one at $14.99 they charged me $46 for $23 shrimp and took $14.99 off the bill . I went to the service desk and the woman could just not figure it out as REwahoo says "Math is hard " . I finally had them take all the shrimp off the bill and even that took 20 minutes .

Just be glad you don't have my Jeep Wrangler. About $5k this year and that is pretty typical.

I went to my painting class for the first time since school started, I finished my under painting of a travel picture I took of the Dordogne river near Roque Gireac in France, this town was on one of Rick Steves shows. One of my favorite travel pictures and I couldn’t wait to get back in USA to paint it. My art instructor approved of my under painting, I had a super nice and enjoying time in this art class. It’s very relaxing to paint with music in the background. Days like this make my early retirement a very pleasant experience.

Had an interesting phone call from DD last night. It's very unusual for either one of our kids to call without texting first now, so I always get worried when they do. But she was calling for financial advice for a friend. The friend's stepfather has asked the friend to form an S corporation for the purpose of buying some stock in a privately held company (I think that's the basics of it). Friend doesn't want to upset mother, but doesn't trust stepfather, and is worried not doing what he says could jeopardize a potential future inheritance.

Thanks to my own experience and wisdom I've gained here, I told her that my advice to the friend would be:
- Don't invest any money in anything you don't understand
- Don't make any decisions based on a potential inheritance because that can change at any time anyway
- Talk to a lawyer about the details of what stepfather is requesting before doing anything, as it sounded a little squirrelly to me (as it did to both of them).

DD was very happy with the help, and DH (who overheard it all) said I did a great job

But it did get me thinking about all of the millions of millennials who don't have financially savvy parents (or parents of friends) - they have nowhere to go for advice except Google and who knows what cr*p will turn up at the top of the search results. Hope I was able to help out a bit in this case.

I went surfing on my sixty-fifth birthday.

Waves were just right for an old man, with nice lulls between sets for getting out with getting hammered.

Happy Birthday, Al!!! You look great and it is so cool that you got to go surfing on your birthday. :D

I cleaned the chimney yesterday. A lot of soot drifted up out of the chimney. It definitely needed it. I am thinking when I turn 70, maybe I will hire this done.

Our trusty B&W laser printer gave up the ghost after over ten years of great service. Yesterday I replaced it with a new one, also a Brother, and it cost about $100 less than the previous printer, while also being faster.

Also, I had to use some special software with the old one so we could print on it from our iPhone or iPad. The new one has that (AirPrint) already built in.

Sometimes you just have to stop and appreciate advancing technology.

Sunday is my garden day so I cleaned one area of my garden, now that we have emptied out one compost bin. Lots of beautiful black dirt from the compost bin. Preparing the soil to plan daffodils next, just got some from Lowe’s.

Just finished washing, drying, and putting away a mountain of laundry, while posting here on the forum.

Doing laundry is so easy in 2018 compared with the tales I have heard about doing laundry a hundred years ago. I even remember my grandmother's wringer washer even just 50 years ago, and hanging up laundry outside to dry at her house because of having no dryer. Sure, we may sometimes wish we had lived in times long past, but not on laundry day.

Yesterday I ran into a long time friend, who lives out of town, at Costco. (Her daughter attends a local university so she comes to visit periodically, and her mom and sisters live here.) She mentioned she'd 'stealth retired'. I was so happy for her. She has always done well financially, investing, etc... so it wasn't surprising... but she seemed very happy with her decision. I'm meeting her later in the week to find out the details.

Later in the afternoon I went to a beach party with a bunch of old work friends. Turns out they were all laid off (except one) by our former employer. They all received 6months - 1 year severalnce. Mixed reactions about it - several were worried about finding new jobs... But my former office mate had to suppress his joy when he was told he'd get a year's severance... he'd been thinking of quitting to travel for a year... and this worked out perfect.

The icing on the cake of the party was we all saw the 'green flash' at sunset. Only the second time I've seen it, despite seeing a lot of coastal sunsets.

Today I went on a hike at the state park that my sister was leading for the local Sierra Club chapter. It was very nice and I met some nice people.

I just replaced my ink jet printer with a laser printer this year and love it. The first toner cartridge lasted for 6 months.

Threw a Pickleball themed birthday party for friends. Just love being retired and relaxed about Monday as always.
