Quicken Problems

I've got an old copy of Quicken - 2003.

I downloaded it from a disk long ago. It sits on my PC and doesn't connect to anything else.

I tried to open it today. It automatically brings up my most recent active file. I got an error message that says "can't open file".

Opening Explorer and looking at my files, it seems that the file it was trying to open doesn't exist. It has simply vanished.

I regularly back up to a thumb drive. I inserted it and looked for the most recent backup. Again, the recent file is just missing. The newest I could find was from January 2018.

Any ideas what happened?

Or, ideas on where I could go to find out what happened?

Look in your recycle bin?

Do a search and see if it is not where Quicken is expecting it.

Thanks. I had already looked in the recycle bin and tried a search.

But, I searched again, through the entire C: drive, and it showed up in something called "AppData\local\virtualstore ..."

I have no idea how it got there or what that name means. Now I have to figure out why my thumb drive back up didn't work.
