Signed the closing papers for the new house. Have moved some stuff over. Will sleep and have breakfast here.

Congratulations Khan! Enjoy your new house!

Had my first-ever appointment with a lawyer this morning, to finally make a will (revocable trust), health care directive, etc. Glad to finally get this piece done.
I took public transportation downtown as parking is terrible. I had to walk for some blocks and man is it cold! Came home in early afternoon, put on long johns, and am snuggled in some blankets. Winter came very suddenly to MN.
Exterminator is currently on the roof setting squirrel traps. That waskly squirrel and his kin pried open the soffit, made a hole, and moved into the attic last week. I don't really blame him. It is cold.

Spent part of the morning at Seattle Humane Society taking photos of adoptable dogs. Meet Dudley, the big guy, and Freddy the little guy.

Checked out my neighbor's brand new 2017 Vette. Took it for a spin around the neighborhood. Much nicer that my old Vette and this one has all the options. Scary fast and feels heavy. Even old men can have fun cars!

Started work on the 23ton switch engine. Removed the exhaust and muffler to gain access to the top of the engine. Next step is to pull the injectors and put some oil in each cylinder to break pistons free.
Looks like a fun project.

Cool. When was it run last? I could imagine freeing stuck pistons on something that size could take some "ooomph!".

Is that electro-motive drive like the big boys? Or just super low gearing?

It has an electromotive drive. AFIK, it was last run in the 70's

Oooh, just had to share: paid off the last of a six-figure debt today.
So. Freaking. Glad.

Now we can really start making headway on the FIRE funds!

P.S. Deeply amused by those of you talking about "cold" and "snow" and "winter." Today was the chilliest day in a couple of weeks -- it was a crisp 64 degrees. ;) I was a little worried about whether or not it was wise to bike to work in such frigid weather. Luckily I survived. Even more luckily, the rest of the week will return to our safe and accustomed winter temperatures of the low 70s. ;)

6 month update

Ok, I retired at the end of April so it's been about six months since I last went to work. I have realized that retirement is like being unemployed, not looking for work, but still having money to spend. Pretty nice actually:dance::D

I've been having an issue with a molar and yesterday was my first ever endodontist appointment.

He's an interesting guy, fascinating how he determined the right tooth. It was the one my dentist thought, but it took a while to determine that. He apologized for making me drive down there to determine which tooth it was. He couldn't tell from the xray. A prior patient made his point, she's had two root canals done on the wrong teeth.

I was shocked when he asked what I was doing at 6:30 tonight. His schedule is booked because of a seminar he's speaking at. So Durango and back all in the dark during the rut, I swore I'd never do this. I've suggested we pack up the dogs and stay the night, haven't talked DW into it yet.

Should be an interesting evening.

Congratulations!!! Do your happy dance today!!!:dance::dance:

Gym day with DW today, cold (40°) and rainy. Halfway to the gym she says "OMG! We can't go anywhere else!"

Uh, why not?

She'd put two different types of sneakers on her feet.

It was difficult, but I managed to not suggest to anyone else that they compliment her on her footwear. And as I suspected would happen, no one noticed.

Wasted most of the day.

Some pencil-pusher at the university where I am doing my PhD decided all research students now have to do a mandatory on-line ethics training course ... just in case they fell asleep during the mandatory departmental seminar on the same topic and/or failed to read the multi-page fine print on the declaration of academic honesty we have to sign on first enrolment.

On my third glass of chardonnay and I'm still feeling irritated.

Last night we drove to Durango so I could get a root canal. The drive in the dark was interesting. Sunset was great, we hit chimney rock at prime time. The way home was dark, raining and turned to sleet. I hung close to an 18 wheeler most of the trip.

I'd only been to his office once before and got turned around when we got down there. In an older part of town, small side streets with little lighting. We spooked a big mule deer and I thought she was going to jump in the bed.

The docs an interesting guy. I wouldn't say it was fun, but I really did enjoy chatting with him. Somehow I mentioned my past in technology and imaging. On the way out he showed off his systems. He told me he had a master's in digital imaging(I didn't share that was a big part of my career and my formal education in the subject was 0)!

Tooth isn't too bad this morning, unfortunately the crown didn't survive the procedure. It was probably 10-12 years old and I'd ground off most of the enamel so time for a new one. Hopefully the next 3+ weeks are uneventful.

OUTSTANDING!

Your outlook on everything financial will feel different now. Debt free just feels so solid.

Picked up a couple of prescriptions, went to the doc's office for my monthly B-12 shot and while there snuck a copy of Model Aviation magazine in the stacks of otherwise boring and out-of-date magazines they have in there. Perhaps this will introduce someone else to the hobby. Did a grocery run on the way home and now I'm in for the day.

Sounds like a pretty good doc. I had an issue with a tooth and my dentist sent me to a endodentist. He could not locate the specific tooth either.

He said he could do the root canal on the one he thought it was, or we could wait until the pain kicked in and there would be no doubt. I said I'd rather wait.

He said "that's fine, but here's some Oxycodone. Once that pain starts, you'll need it".

Used my sawmill to cut up a few small cedar logs. These were from a tree that fell across the road on the way to our river camp, had a chainsaw with me so didn't want to waste the logs but had to cut them small to handle them by myself.

Awesome. I can almost smell it.

How thick are the flitches?

Today we made our weekly trek to Walmart. I did some work from home. Then I made BLT sandwiches with some of the last garden tomatoes. I visited with my Mom and Dad and then DH wanted to go out for a beer and a sandwich. We had a nice weather day her in Iowa today.

At least with the root canal done, hopefully you are no longer in pain.

I went to the dentist today too, but only had to have a filling done.

Left one about two inches thick, the rest about an inch. Nice smell while cutting, makes up for the times I've cut red oak.
