What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

We just finished S4 of For All Mankind (Apple TV+). A satisfying story in some ways and unsatisfying at the same time..a bit like real life. But we give it ***** ! Well worth your time. All epis have dropped so you can binge it. Fingers crossed for S5.

For All Mankind is my favourite streaming show. I'll probably be starting that tomorrow. I'm halfway through the somewhat disappointing S2 of Reacher.

I just finished watching 4 seasons (24 episodes) of the German show called “Weissensee Saga”. It’s about the end of GDR and German reunification as told through the eyes of a family heavily involved with Stasi. There’s a fair amount of soap opera like drama but the story gets better and better with every season. You can find this on Prime on the Mhz channel (paid but it has a free trial) and I think on Apple TV+. Here’s a cool review:

Hepzibah: The Weissensee Saga

We have been enjoying Loudermilk on Netflix. Three seasons, and it is soo easy to knock 3 30 minute episodes back in a row. Fun characters, a goodly number of times that the expected is not what happens. Just thought - it is in many ways the opposite of Reacher. The lead character in Loudermilk is NOT an over muscled Hulk who squishes the unfortunate baddies who manage to get within his reach. Instead he has .. issues with life that he's trying to deal with. He is not a white knight paragon of honor that men and women view with awe but instead an absolute opiniated jerk, a critic, that all see as a total assho. Withal, he tries to do the right thing within his lights. Funny show, good twists, recommend highly.

I was skeptical of her (Agatha Raisin) taking on that role but I thought she did a great job. Shetland is one of my favorite shows and I thought season 8 was as good as seasons 1-7.

Agree. We could never get into Agatha Raisin, but Ashley Jensen was quite good in Shetland. Also nice to see Tosh coming into her own; she always had to play second fiddle to Jimmy Perez.

Interesting tidbit. Ashley Jensen is married to Kenny Doughty, who plays Vera's sergeant. Shetland and Vera are both based on books by Ann Cleeves.

You might also enjoy this comedy about life after the fall of the Wall: Good Bye, Lenin.

The story is of Alex, whose mother, a devoted member of the Communist Party, suffers a heart attack which sends her into a coma - through which she sleeps throughout the months of revolution and the fall of the communist regime. When she awakes, the doctors warn Alex not to cause his mother any anxiety or excitement; therefore, he goes to ludicrously immense lengths to keep her convinced that communism in East Berlin is still alive.

Just finished the limited series Citadel. Spy thriller. Prime. I enjoyed it.

LOVED Brother Sun. Takes place in Taipei and LA. High body count but also high laugh count. Netflix.

We've been enjoying The Firm, a 1 season series on Prime Video starring Josh Lucas. It is set about 10 years after the movie.

I saw this when it first came out on FX(?) It was better than it had any right to be. Lots of twists and turns.

I watched the Firm years ago and I thought it was great. There was a TV legal/crime drama called Damages with Glenn Close around that came out around the same time and I thought it was excellent. I rewatched Damages just recently and it was even good the 2nd time. I tried to go back to the Firm but I just couldn't for whatever reason. This one is slightly newer but The Killing was very good the first time (American detective show but its a lot like a British detective drama) and it was good the 2nd time as well. Anything I watched over 10 years ago is game at this point if there is nothing good to watch.

We are watching The Night Agent, a Netflix series. The show starts off fairly good and then progresses to get better and better as the plot plays out.

Started "Blood Coast" Set in Marseille South of France (French with English Subs). Typical Drug Gang conflict and the Police efforts to thwart them. The French Talk fast so it is a challenge to keep up with the subs, but it works. Lots of gratuitous violence which is synonymous with gang conflicts. I like it, DW not so much.

I am watching Funny Woman. A young and very attractive gal wins a beauty contest and goes to London looking for work as a female comedian. Her beauty gets her a lot of attention from all the wrong men. It’s quite an entertaining show with plenty of really great supporting characters. Best of all, it’s on FAST.

FAST - Free Ad Supported Television

Started "Hidden Assets" a great Irish/Dutch Police procedural, in the same class as most UK Police shows. There are 2 seasons, I was waiting till I received both before watching.

Any particular service? I checked justwatch.com and only PBS/Amazon and Spectrum came up.
Looks like only episodes 1 and 2 are free on PBS. You need Passport for the others.

Edit: Looks like Episode 3 is set to broadcast on PBS Sunday evening. Maybe it will be available for free streaming after that.

No need for passport. It’s being broadcast on the PBS. One episode each week on Sunday night in my area.

Also being broadcast are the new seasons of Miss Scarlet and the Duke and All Creatures Great and Small.

Again, be patient and you can see the entire season for free. No need for any subscription. If you have an antenna, you don’t even need Internet or cable service. Though I do recommend a DVR such as a TiVo or Tablo unit. It’s nice to be able to watch show at times convenient for the viewer.

I had edited my post. But based on what I added, you still need to go back to stream the first couple episodes if you haven't seen them. I assume the previous poster hasn't.

And I think they will allow free streaming of the third episode a day after it airs. But that was all free streaming - no need for a subscription a day after it airs, apparently. Then can continue watching from there via broadcast on the schedule with new episodes. Only 6 episodes in the season.

I'm shaking my head here. I can't seem to get started on a single new series and you are going through one after another.

Same here. I just need to find out how to watch episodes 1 and 2.

My local PBS station is still streaming episode 1 and 2 of All Creatures Great and Small as of this minute with no Passport requirement. I have it streaming on my tablet as I write this. But, it looks like the PBS Passport will be needed for episodes 3 and on. So get them recorded from OTA or your cable company if you can while you can

Over the Air broadcast TV is great and very underrated IMO. But, to do it right you do need a DVR. Otherwise, it’s the 1960’s all over again!

PBS Masterpiece channel via Amazon:

Astrid

A French detective series with subtitles. Very well done.

I just came across this on Amazon Prime. Started to watch it, looked interesting, got through half of the first episode, then DW overhead the dialog. Being fluent in the language, she wants to watch it. She almost never watches TV shows, so we will watch it.
