Horse Racing Fans - Question re: Zenyatta

Just curious why she has never raced in the Kentucky Derby. Anyone know why?

Her trainer said she was a very late developing horse and was too immature to race at that age.

I'm not much into horses but did see her run in Santa Anita tack in Arcadia CA and was amazed, she was well below mid pack half way through the race and won it definitively.
