What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

Binged Jack Ryan seasons 1 and 2. Excellent Action Thriller. Very well done.

For general info on recommendations posted here I type "[Series Name]spTV Series" into Google and read the Wiki, it has about the best descriptions available. I do this for every series posted.

I recently learned that the third season of City on a Hill is underway on Showtime so I'm catching up. Some will find Kevin Bacon's swaggering character a bit hard to take but it's still a gritty urban police drama and I'm enjoying it.

I'm enjoying it too. Your Honor is another one on Showtime that is pretty good.

We just finished binge watching "Bosch" 7 seasons on Amazon Prime, then went on to watch "Bosch Legacy", which is really Bosch Season 8. Amazing TV series with a lot of grit. DW loves it so much. Now I know why it is the longest running TV series on Amazon and the best TV series on Amazon Prime.

Just finished Season of Van De Valk, enjoyed it and will now move on to Season 2. Police procedural based in Amsterdam. Funny as all the characters have English accents.

Loving Reservation Dogs. It’s a coming of age ensemble dramedy set on a reservation. Coupled with reading about the show on Reddit, I’m learning a lot about reservation culture.

Just started The Patient on Hulu with Steve Carell. Unfortunately, no binging, as only the first 2 episodes were available.

Watched Colosseum, it was a good insight into how the Roman Colosseum played an integral part of Roman Life.

Currently watching The Imperfects, a bit of Teen influence but sort of entertaining. I would not call it a horror show by any length, a bit of monsters and SciFi maybe.

Secured The Bridge AU, Grid, Last Night, My Life as a Rolling Stone. They are all next on the list along with some I found that are not so new such as Murder in Suburbia, In the Dark, and Hightown.

We watched Patriot on Amazon. A fine mix of the implausible that feels like it is just how things work. Kept us watching so we could see just the heck was going to happen next. Except for some bafflegab bits it was very enjoyable.

I finished season 1 of Stranger Things. Very good, and a nice recommendation from this thread.

I've been watching the first season of the new Netflix show "Buy My House." Homeowners offer their property for sale to four "real estate tycoons" and hope to strike a deal with at least one of them. It's mostly inoffensive real estate soft-porn. :) For one the deals, all four tycoons agree to contribute capital and form a partnership with the seller. I have a lot of experience with partnerships and you'd never find me entering into such a deal. If my net worth was up near 9 figures I'd have staff who could deal with the complexities and risks of such an arrangement. :greetings10:

Just finished S2 of Guilt on PBS. Great plot with many twists and turns, and a terrific ending. Also watched S2 of Cobra which was not bad. Don’t much care for the first three episodes of Rings of Power on Prime. We’ll continue to watch it, of course.

I like both Guilt and Cobra on PBS, I was surprised how much I liked Cobra--learned a lot about the British political system.

Just started watching Industry (HBO Max) because it seems to be getting a lot of buzz. It’s about Gen zers (I think) working in finance. Not sure why I’m watching it because the music and plot lines make me anxious, but I will say it makes me glad I’m retired and maybe even glad I’m old.

We just finished HBO’s Mare of Eastown, and really liked it. We like dark layered police mysteries and it fit that description. It had the feel of the Seattle based show The Killing.

Hope they have a second season.

However, HBOMax is in turmoil with the merger with Discovery, and a lot of budget is getting cut. Many shows won't see second future seasons. Since "Mare" was made as a limited series with decent closure, it is doubtful we'll see another.

Finished off "The Imperfects", it was OK, but I would not rave about it.

Watched "My Life as a Rolling Stone" last night. I thought it was pretty good and learned a lot about the band I grew up with.

I'm current on this, it's about halfway thru S2 now. It has a bit more language/sex/drugs than most here will find to their liking (and more than it needs to be a good story). It also suffers, perhaps by intent, from the current style of building a series with no particularly nice characters in the cast. Succession pulls that off better, but Industry is just about getting away with it so far.

These have been mentioned before, but:

Old Man - Hulu - Jeff Bridges plays someone with a mysterious past. John Lithgow is also really good in this one.

Borgen - Netflix - Danish political drama. Not something that would normally interest me but this series was really well done and I binged through all 4 seasons. Seasons 1-3 were done in 2010-2013. Season 4 was done in 2022 and picked up the story really well considering the 9 year gap. I'm hoping for a 5th season.

I read a good description of Industry—between Euphoria—of which my students always said, “Don’t watch it. You’ll think we’re all on drugs.”—and Succession. I usually love an anti-hero series, but I don’t seem to be able to move forward with Ozark. Maybe I’m moving into my husband’s Hallmark land.

If HBOMax programming gets significantly cut due to the merger, that means a major creative producer of original series is gone. That will be a pity.

I watched S1 of Channel Zero on AMC+ and it was okay. I skipped S2 (Each season is self-contained.) and I'm now watching S3 (Butcher's Block) and OMG, it's like, a horror story meets Twin Peaks. So weird! Not for the faint of heart though...

Does anyone know where I can watch the full final season of Better Call Saul? TIA!

HBO Max and Warner Bros. Discovery seem to be on fire, and that’s on purpose

The last few weeks, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has started to feel like a villain in a Real Housewives show. He isn’t here to make friends. He’s here to make money. Films have been canceled, TV shows have been yanked off HBO Max with zero preamble, execs have been let go, worsening the company’s already notable diversity problem, and the company has lost $20 billion off its market cap — all in an effort to get $3 billion in savings and hopefully reorient a ship Zaslav has disagreed with the course of. Zaslav’s plan is to focus on making as much money as cheaply as possible.

I've read elsewhere that all the chips may be put into the middle of the table on "Dragon" stuff, with bets going nowhere else. I don't care at all about those shows. Not happy to hear that.

Well I just signed up for a year of HBOMax using a couple of big discounts. That will probably then be it for me.

Sounds like yet another media executive going for the cheapest dumbest content which is what drew me away from cable in the first place. We don’t go see “blockbuster” Hollywood type movies either - so repetitive and unoriginal.

HBO Max lost billions.

AT&T did spend a lot for original content so they had a lot of "Max Originals" alongside the traditional HBO exclusives.

Some of these Max Originals were very good like Hacks and the first season of The Flight Attendant.

But they had a lot of European shows that were good but not watched by many people.

Zaslav has said HBO is the crown jewel and he extended the contract of Casey Bloys, the creative head of HBO.

So HBO shows which are relatively popular will always get green lit. They're going to have the second season of White Lotus soon.

Mare of Easttown, I think they would approve additional seasons but it depends on the availability of stars like Winslett.

I expect HBO to have plenty of good content.

I do like the Game of Thrones shows and they're working on other spinoffs besides House of the Dragon.
