What is your pet peeve of the day?

People that don't know what is theirs and what is not theirs!
My wife has some sugar melons in a garden near a sidewalk, she had one she was watching as it was almost ready, the next day she went out to pick it, it was gone. Someone walked 20ft into our garden and stole it.

Ack! This bugs me to no end, also. Happens to us frequently. I have tons of flowers that grow in our front yard in Spring and Summer, I go out to get some for a bouquet, and see many pulled. I have even seen a walker wave to me as she headed down with a handful:mad:
I would have gone after her, but I was in my pjs, as it was 6 am!
I finally moved many bulbs to our back fenced yard and now just have a hedge of lavender along the street area. Still gets picked, but maybe someone might get stung by a bee to discourage them sometime:angel:

My latest peeve is people who try to set up the false narrative that people who buy Tesla's do it because they have a need to do something called "virtue signaling".

My wife and I each own a Tesla and the last thing we care about is what other people think of us! I know a number of Tesla owners and none of them bought a Tesla to "signal virtue", they bought them because they are really nice cars to own and drive. Most of them also appreciate that they pollute less and create a more pleasant and healthier atmosphere.

I'm sure someone, somewhere bought a Tesla to appear more virtuous but people who try to paint "virtue signaling" as the main reason most people buy Tesla's are exposing their own insecurities. Maybe if they actually bothered to test drive one they would find out they are really fun cars and they wouldn't need to make up silly reasons why people buy them.

You think you're better than me, don't you!

SiriusXM. I thought I had canceled three months ago, but apparently I only suspended it. No problem; I probably didn't remember accurately. But today a $0.20 charge appeared. No problem; I won't miss 20 cents. But when I logged on to my account it showed I was reactivated and that I would receive another bill on 8/20.

So I chatted with them and told them to cancel. It was like dealing with a phone scammer. They offered me two bucks a month for three months and said no taxes, no fees. So I asked them to provide the full terms and of course it was for more like $16 and "fees and taxes are included in the above rate." I had to actually type in "CANCEL CANCEL CANCEL" before they would do it. Then the guy told me to "calm down." Finally, the canned message stated that my subscription would reactivate at a certain time next year. The agent said that it really wouldn't. Yeah, sure. I'll be keeping a copy of the chat transcript handy.

Because Amazon queries past purchasers through e-mails and one option is to just hit the 'I don't Know' button on the e-mail. I didn't know it actually was going to publish that as an answer, because I Don't Know is NOT an answer. Now that I do, I'll notify Amazon to stop their spamming me with those questions.

Yeah, but, some of those "I don't know" answers are very detailed. My favorite: "The item looks really nice, but I didn't buy it"....

Right. The question might be about a dimension or something, and some one will respond: "I don't know, we liked the product, but we lost it on a trip to my brother's house which is two hours away, so I can't measure it for you."

Oh. Can you convert that to mm?

We don't have cable and hands down S XM is my least favorite company in the entire world to deal with. We take a trial offer once a year before we do our snowbird trip. Canceling in a major pain.. We like to listen to talk radio (mostly sports) so I grit my teeth and put up with it.

So you're scamming XM?

Heck no they sent me mailing offers to re-sign up every time.. you can't scam them since each car has a unique radio ID..I should have said special offer instead of trial. Is that you XM radio...?

DW and I purchased a car about 9 years ago and it had a 3 month subscription for Sirius/XM radio. While it was our "good car", we only drive it when taking trips when we don't fly. Spends a lot of time in garage, so it never got the take down signal from Sirius/XM until this spring when DW took the car out and drove it for 2 weeks straight, leaving it out in the elements. While we had the the subscription for almost 9 years, we probably never used the car for more than 365 days.

My car came with a SiriusXM subscription when I bought it a couple of years ago. Didn't use it much at all but it was nice on long trips. It was supposed to be a 3 month trial subscription but the dealer apparently never communicated my email or any other information to Sirius and it just kept working for free.

Recently I brought it in for the 24 month service and when I got it back the subscription had ended. Sirius still doesn't know who I am, so no nagging to resubscribe. I don't really miss it, and the two years of freebies were nice so I didn't say anything to the dealer. In the past I've had to endure their hellish cancellation routine so no interest anymore.

I really enjoyed having Sirius in my truck and on my phone for the gym. But since I'm not using either I decided to cancel. Once I'm driving more and using the gym again I was planning to reactivate the subscription. But after dealing with these clowns I probably won't.

Yet another pet peeve today. DW paid the yearly rent on our safe deposit box by mailing in a check. We got a late notice the other day and since the first check never cleared in Quicken I had forgotten all about it until after I mailed a new check and was filing the paperwork. So I called the local bank today. All I got was a ration of grief about how I should have gone by the bank and paid it in person. I told them it boggled my mind that they couldn't handle mailed checks. I'm assuming the first check got lost in the mail but I'm not so sure. In any case she made it clear that mailing the bill in was "iffy" for them.

I called Schwab to put a stop notice on the first check. Now they know how to do customer service. Quick, efficient, polite, and just a pleasure to talk to. There was no fee, either. So that's my "anti-peeve" of the day!

My current pet peeve is people who consider themselves experts on everything medical because “my husband is a doctor”.. and the like.
I’ve heard twice just today two different people say “well I should know because my husband is a doctor”.

I just heard the words "at the end of the day" used at least 6-10 times during a short interview. I don't like the expression much in the first place, but using it multiple times drives me nuts.

You could respond with " I have a small boil, could you treat it for me ?"

Is your bank even open ?
I was thinking yesterday, if I had made use of my free safety deposit box, could I even access right now ?
I know my Chase bank is closed, just the ATM is working.

Id like to add ppl that think they know everything medical bc they "are a nurse". An LPN? An RN that hasn't touched a patient in 40 years? Literally among the stupidest ppl I've ever encountered have been nurses so that doesn't impress me. I need to add that also among friends are some nurses that are incredibly intelligent. But it's not a rule.

Close friend of mine is a brilliant RN. She will be the first to tell you to "follow your Dr's advice or get a new dr" and she will refrain from giving much advice bc she KNOWS she's been in admin and leadership for decades and shoukdnt. If only some of these hairbrained Facebook nurses would follow her lead.

Yes! I know a few people who are RNs but have worked in sales for 25 years and any time a health topic comes up suddenly it’s “well I’m a nurse”. As you say there are some brilliant nurses but enough already.

Our subscription with Sirius XM ends in 10 days. I will cancel a few days before to make sure it goes through. I'm certain I can get them to offer the usual year service at $5/mo (plus the whopping royalty fees), but it's a pain to continue with this yearly aggravation.

It's almost as bad as dealing with AT&T and their TV service we've had for almost two years. As much as I barked about Comcast in the past when we were in California, I could always get a new promo with them before the current one expired. AT&T won't even talk about a new promo until you are completely out of the current promo.

Also, AT&T has ended new Uverse TV service with the plan to move those existing Uverse customers to their new AT&T TV streaming service (not AT&T TV Now - that's going away too or may already be gone) or Direct TV. It takes a lot to make me miss Comcast, but AT&T's TV service has done it.

The Sirius XM situation would be a lot easier to deal with if the audio system in our 2015 Buick Enclave could handle Bluetooth and USB drive volume levels correctly. The radio stations in that system (XM/FM/AM) are several levels higher than the external inputs, and it's not even close. Exit from a Bluetooth or USB device to one of the radio stations without first lowering the volume level substantially, and the speakers blast in the car. Really loud!

If these sources were closer in volume or at least had the ability to adjust their base volume levels, I would ditch Sirius XM immediately as we have enough music (over 1,000 CDs) to provide us with more than enough music. Beyond that, there are several other audio "features" Buick and GM have given me the middle finger to that make using those external music sources immensely frustrating. If these are devices you want to use and are considering a GM vehicle, make absolutely certain their volume levels aren't massively different than the radio stations. Your ears and your vehicle's speakers will thank you.

Seems I had several pet peeves in this response: Sirius XM renewals, AT&T TV service renewals, and Buick's crappy audio system features.

Seems an odd peeve.

No doubt some people will accuse Tesla owners of "virtue signaling". And no doubt some Tesla owners are "virtue signaling" (even if you don't know any personally).

This is not unique to Tesla owners, this takes place across the spectrum in different ways. I could just as easily say that when some people see a guy in a Corvette, they will accuse the Corvette owner of having a mid-life crisis, or compensating for some insecurity. And no doubt some Corvette owners are having a mid-life crisis, or compensating for some insecurity.

So getting back to pet peeves, I guess I'll say one of mine is people who play the victim. It's tiring. I might even consider it a form of "virtue signaling".

So true. But what's worse is when the person is actually a doctor and they don't know what they are talking about. This is a big peeve of mine. Case in point:

My wife fell off her horse and injured her shoulder joint but didn't want to go to the doctor. Her shoulder seemed pretty normal except when she raised her arm in a certain way (like to put on a t-shirt) she had searing pain. Finally after a week of this she agreed to let me take her to the hospital (because her GP was backed up for weeks).

The ER doc had a look at it and tried to send her home with a sling, saying it would heal fine on it's own. I disagreed with him and said there is a serious problem here, I don't think it's going to heal fine on it's own and, at a minimum, she needs an x-ray to check it out.

He said, no, it's fine. I said it needs an x-ray. This went on and on for over three or four iterations and finally he said he had other patients to see and we had to leave. I said "well, we are not leaving before we get an x-ray unless escorted out by the police under arrest."

Again, he told me an x-ray wasn't necessary and I had to repeat my ultimatum at which point he rolled his eyes, said he would send my wife in for an x-ray but it was completely unnecessary and accused me of "playing doctor".

After the x-ray the ER doc came back to talk with us and he said "It's a good thing you came in here to have that checked out because you have broken your (some bone at the top of the shoulder joint) and it could cause you shoulder problems for the rest of your life if not dealt with immediately. I've scheduled surgery for tomorrow morning so the loose bone can be screwed together in the right position. If you had waited even two or three more days it would be outside the window for the bone to fuse together properly."

He didn't apologize and basically ignored that I had to risk being arrested to even get a basic x-ray. Yes, I'm still mad at how arrogant he was. Fortunately, my lovely wife's shoulder made a complete recovery (it took over 6 months after the surgery) and she is able to ride her horse again without any issues. :)

An interesting design development in web browsers is that the title bar has disappeared from some, like Chrome, Brave, and Opera. I think Firefox is next.

This leaves you in a spot if you're trying to find something neutral to click on and activate a window behind the one you're in. Hard to change user behaviour at this stage of the game.

+1 That's one of my pet peeves, too. People who would rather whine about their situation and how unfair life is, than to actually DO something to overcome their obstacles and improve their situation in life.

Life is no bed of roses; we all have obstacles, some more than others I suppose. Still, my observations have been that some of the worst obstacles are faced by some of those you'd never think had any obstacles at all. Instead of whining and moaning about fairness and being a victim, they double down on their efforts and power through to their goals.
