DOW 25k by 12/31/2017

The markets were sketchy in mid-2016?

I must have missed that.

There was a sharp 10% correction at the end of 2015 through Feb 2016. Someone retiring mid 2016 might have been spooked by this.

In late 2015-early 2016, oil price crashed. Brent crude that was $110+ per barrel a year earlier dropped to below $30. It is $66 now. When a gallon of drinking water, not even distilled or mineral, sells for more than a gallon of gasoline, something is very very wrong.

People panicked, I think because if oil was not needed perhaps the whole world economy tanked. Not sure what really happened, but copper price also reached a low of $2/lb at that time, and copper is used in nearly everything.

I won't be surprised if Dow ends 2018 at around 25k after a few years of strong bull run. We are due for a correction.

I scheduled my start of year rebalancing on 1/2.

Thus, I'm already prepared for the big big crash onf 2018 :).

"As goes the first trading day of the year, so goes the year."

"As go the premarkets, so goes the day."

Those are just sayings, so FWIW, premarkets are up.

There's another couple of old sayings that come to mind when thinking about the current market

What goes up, must come down

and

The bigger they are, the harder they fall

Happy New Year :)

I completed my annual rebalancing before noon today. Vanguard can't submit my transactions until tomorrow, but I just wanted it to be done.
