Severe osteoarthritis of the knee

Just gathering information

I have a close relative who has osteoarthritis in one or both knees. She is in her early 70’s. There is a family practice physician here in the Seattle area who is going to do a stem cell procedure on her as he has convinced her this will be helpful in giving her increased mobility and less pain. This is a procedure that is not covered by insurance at this point in time.

I had knee replacement surgery on my right knee two summers ago. It was
successful overall. My knee was in awful shape from postponement of surgery. I’m now pain free and range of motion is somewhat better than it was pre surgery.

I’m curious in hearing from anyone on the forum who may know something about stem cell usage in knees or any other ortho procedures. My relative is convinced this will make her so much better. I’m not convinced. She goes in for the procedure in a week. I’m skeptical!

I have a bad knee, my orthopedic specialist gave me a steroid shot and he said I could only have it one time. It provided relief for a month and the pain came right back. He offered stem cell option thereafter and I said nah, not yet. I think he said about $5K.

What about Euflexxa shots? They helped DH's arthritic knees for many years. He finally had to have knee replacement on the left knee but Euflexxa shots are keeping his right knee going. Euflexxa shots are covered by Medicare.

I think it had to do with weight transfer in high level/impact golf. He is super powerful and may have something to do with the "fast twitch" (jerk) for greater force/velocity. These were buzz words used for a few years until Tiger Woods and Jason Day developed back issues trying to use "fast twitch" muscles and these buzz words seem to have faded as quickly as they showed up.
