What did you do today? 2018 version

Yesterday my aunt called and wanted to come for dinner today. Which is perfect! She is the kind who wants to bring food for dinner since she cooked far too much of something - turkey this time - and she is a great cook. And good company.

So I took the hoover for a walk trough the living room just now. And that is all I am going to do today.

Measured the height of the RV trailer as I was looking at parks in Allegheny National forest last night and one warned "only accessible to vehicles/campers 10" and less in height, and realized I didn't really know what the height was.

Wow, doubt they get many who can meet that...

Got it covered.

Got my new, higher, claimed-at-age-70 Social Security monthly deposit for the second time, like clockwork.

Of course, I wouldn't want to brag about how incredibly happy and incredulous I feel seeing this hit the bank, almost like magic. Wouldn't want to make anyone feel bad.

So I'll say nothing, and instead just smile enigmatically like the Mona Lisa, and quietly, modestly, and with complete grace and decorum, end this post here....

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Worked on the sprinkler system. The previous owner had 9 sprinkler heads on each of two different zones and the well could only muster 35 PSI when those zones ran. So I broke the overloaded zones into two parts each. Lots of digging and cursing, especially when I couldn't get the new control valves to work properly. Fixed now, time for a beer.

Seeing the time of your post as 9:24PM, I have to ask "Beer at 9PM?"

On 2nd thought, why not!

My question should have been "Who's digging in the yard at 9PM?"

PS. I did not do any hard work today, but your post made me thirsty for a beer. Going out to the fridge to fetch meself one.

How are you going to celebrate? I'd say go out to lunch but you do that every day already. :)

The digging had been long done, the frustration was figuring out the latching sprinkler solenoids. Turns out they need to be connected to the controller to be in the off position.

Good to know that the issue was not so pressing that you had to work until that late. But I would not deny myself that beer until that late last night. :)

About the latching sprinkler valves, I have never encountered such things, although latching relays are more common such as the ones used in all RVs to engage/disengage the house batteries.

I have no idea! :D But it's pretty amazing when retirement planning becomes tangible cash that is right there before my eyes.

Sometimes people here assume that money will not mean anything to us when we are over 70, but I can attest to the fact that for me, it is even more fun at age 70+ than it would have been years ago.

The sprinkler controller and valves are located where there is no electric power. (Recently I was fishing here for a cheap solar solution.) Thus the use of latching sprinkler valve solenoids which are quite expensive.

Looks like dinner out at a restaurant for a few nights.... What a project!

DW has an electric skillet and microwave rigged up, but I agree - lots of dinners out. Probably 6-8 weeks worth while the cabinets and countertops are being made.

Did some yard work early, then spent a couple hours sorting music and loading a 32 gig flash drive of songs for my car in preparation for an upcoming road trip.

I also made a second flash drive for my GF's truck, hopefully eliminating all of the songs that I know she doesn't like.

We went to a comedy show last night. The headliner was pretty funny. Today was an insurance review with our agent, errands, a bit of paperwork and to we drove to a lake towards the coast to walk the dog since it was cooler there than by our house today.

Everyone thanks for your inspiration and courage to set your own course. I visited HR today and gave my six month notice. Looking forward to the next chapter!

Taking my wife’s family, cousins, nieces and an aunt to Pattaya Beach for a day trip, staying the night at a friends house and will have a nice home cooked Thai dinner by her, 13 of us total in 2 cars, 5 people in our car and 8 in their little Isuzu!

Visited a dealer with my brother and my mother to help her buy a new car. Drove it home for her, as she wanted to "experiment" with it around the neighborhood before venturing further out.

Got myself back into the groove regarding the DIY solar and battery storage project (I am sure some readers here remember my 22kWh lithium battery project). Had to put that aside to do the lithium battery upgrade for the motorhome for the recent Alaska trip, and now had to refresh my mind on what I decided to do with the bigger home project, and what parts I have bought.

Lots of work left to do, and I cannot do it yet as it is hot as heck out there. The plan is to have it up before next summer, so I will be busy this winter as the design has not been completely fleshed out yet.

Went to the annual family reunion at my brother's place an hour north of the city. I counted 52 people at one point, and estimated that a total of 65 showed up at different times during the day. Not all family, there were about a dozen friends and neighbors.

It was hot...37C or 98F. Luckily his yard has plenty of shade.

We went out to our garden plot this morning, I think we have too many tomatoes.

I was outside most of yesterday during the heat and it was hot again today...37C (99F) with a humidex of 45 (113F), so I mostly stayed indoors and cleaned house, did laundry, and prepared my band's set list for an upcoming gig.
