What is your pet peeve of the day?

"He has a diesel truck".....looks at me, shakes his head, and says "Young girls".
We have a Bluetec diesel. When we were on Vancouver Island, there was one diesel pump. We filled up and then were resetting the trip meter. Guy come out of the cashier station and tells us to move on. No one waiting! We figured out that people driving by just keep on driving to the next station costing him some business.

I once filled up with a tank of bad gas which killed my engine (which eventually resulted in >$1k in repairs over 20 years ago). The attendant came out and I explained it to him. He would only tell me I had to move the vehicle from in front of the pump, and hurry! I'm not sure he quite understood. :)

On the rare occasions when I pay cash anymore I do the same as aja8888. I don't remember ever seeing anyone waiting in line to get gas. But this is WV, not NYC, and we keep "retiree hours" i.e., not going anywhere during rush hours so that may have something to do with it.

Ah yes, how I love "retiree" hours! :D My preferred gas station is QT (has the high tier gas) and it is an absolute madhouse during rush hours and especially lunch. They are most certainly a "superstore" in the world of gas stations...they now have "QT Kitchens" where you can pre-order food on an app (similar set up to the WaWa's for you northern folks) and it's a very busy place. Thankfully, the one closest to us will probably slow down a little bit since they are building a fancy, new Racetrac on the opposing corner.

My pet peeve today is all of the highway construction . Ok I understand everyone is moving to Texas and Houston never quits growing . Now I live 45 miles from Houston and the construction has started here . Some folks know these roads, Route 30 between College Station and Huntsville , shut down completely west of Roans Prairie . Route 90 between Navasota and Anderson one lane only . I guess this is the price we pay for growth .

Going back twenty years......Ehrenberg, AZ.....first pump is diesel, (with a gas pump behind it), and there's a guy refueling.....I pull in behind him and wait for him to finish.

Young guy in a car, with three young female passengers, pulls up behind me....sees the situation and goes into the building.

After a couple minutes one of the girls gets out of the car and starts lambasting me for standing around talking in front of the gas pump.

At this time the guy comes back...says to the girl "He has a diesel truck".....looks at me, shakes his head, and says "Young girls".

This just happened to me the other day, only it was a middle-aged women. Us diesel guys have to suffer the wait and blow more dough in the process. I suppose those electric guys have the same problem now waiting for a charger to free up.

I'm afraid this is a problem in a LOT of places, even those you may not think would be an issue. DW and I are hunting for some land out in fly-over country...something that is close to a population center of 600,000'ish people (but still "out there" a bit) but nice plots are sold within DAYS of being listed. And the nearby population center is growing like a damn weed.

Bullshitting while getting coffee...
You got one job get your coffee and get away from the pots..
LOL!

Megacorp previously had little coffee closets. Everyone hung out and blocked the pots.

Megacorp remodelled into a HUGE breakroom. Plenty of BS space away from the pots. What happens? The BS occurs right in front of the pots. Move your butts to the other side of the room please. I need that coffee NOW!

Irresponsible dog owners. I walk a lot of miles on local greenways. I'm constantly running into dogs, off leash, and the owner calling their untrained dog as I get to know dogs I don't care to know. I carry a walking stick, and would so love to hit a few of those dog owners. I have gently poked/tapped a few mutts; and this sometimes gets me looks if incredulity.

The other day, I'm walking my fur kid after his morning constitution, and here comes some gal with not one, but two rottweilers. Well, these behemoths see my mutt and start heading our way. The lady holding the leashes was maybe a buck-ten in weight. So, the rotts are just pulling her helplessly, as they head for us. I'm only a few steps from home, so I scoop up my 15 pounds of Pekingese terror and dash into the house.

WTF, crappy owners of dogs??!!

Carry and use this: https://www.amazon.com/Halt-91427-HALT-Repellant-Spray/dp/B001AZMH46

Good stuff! Used to carry this when I was a long distance runner. It will stop a raging dog dead in his tracks and he won't ever bother you again! :D
We used to worry about dogs chasing us while biking. Then someone told us to just liberally spray water directly in the face of the charging dog from the water bottle we were always carrying anyway. Just plain water, but right in the face. I have never seen it fail on any dog, and the owner wouldn’t have anything to complain about. If they do, I’d tell them to leash their damn dog. We love dogs BTW.

Water works good when biking. I used to run in very rural setting (Central Connecticut) where no one leashed their dogs. And getting a jaw of a mad German Shepard locked onto your thigh is a lot different than being chased on a bicycle.

We love our dogs too! And I don't run anymore.

Good tip. The dog owners do get super pi$$ed that you have the audacity to defend yourself.

Thanks. When I used to jog, I carried pepper spray and used it a few times. As I hinted in my peeve (walking stick), I would rather pepper spray the owner. I'll try the water (and maybe save the pepper spray for unruly owners). I love animals and dogs/cats (others) have been therapy to me for my whole life.

To other posters - thanks as well. Very few bad animals, sadly, too many bad people.

Press Events

Most commonly, White House News events, but the same situation on any TV News Session with reporters and photographers.

First of all, out of control with shouting and seeming chaos, but for me the worst thing is the noise... not so much from the people, but from the damned cameras.

Somehow I would have hoped that technology had advanced so that the noise from 25 cameras clicking 100 pictures each would have been reduced so that the viewer could hear what was being said.

Pathetic!

Tech support departments that will call you back (good), but when you answer, you still have to wait on hold (bad).

I called suddenlink for tech support when the chat alternatives didn't work.

After "Press 1 for English," they had "Press 1 if anyone in your house is over 50." If you press 1, they have an ad for one of those "I've fallen and can't get up" devices.

I call for support, and I have to listen to an advertisement?

I'm happy to be able to report a nice outcome to my frustrating experience with Best Buy.
I'm retracting this statement.

As I mentioned on Monday, the Best Buy associate I talked to said she'd found the cables to the monitor I'd bought and was "express" shipping them to me.

I waited until Thursday evening and still had not received them. I called Best Buy again and the same associate answered. This time she promised they would be "overnighted" and sent me an email with a UPS tracking number that showed delivery for today (Friday).

Earlier this afternoon, I plugged the tracking number into UPS's website. It showed that the package has not been tendered to UPS for shipment. As of right now, the status says: "A UPS shipping label has been created. Once the shipment arrives at our facility, the tracking status--including the scheduled delivery date--will be updated."

Dogs that squeak rather than bark. Have one next door and one across the street. Driving me batty.

I know what you mean! I used to have a neighbor with a little rat dog with a bark that sounded for all the world like it had just had a paw stepped on (I know they didn't abuse that dog). Thankfully it was kept inside except to do its duty, but when they let it out DW and I would jerk bolt upright.

"Barking cats, I calls 'em."

Those little barcode stickers on produce. I remember the day when the checkout person knew what things were. Perhaps we just have too many choices to keep track of today. The world is awash in plastic it seems. I bought a bag of apples at Costco yesterday - every apple in the bag had a sticker on it. The bag of course had its own barcode.

Salespeople who seem to want to make you look like an idiot for asking if they carry something they don't have.

We went into a carpet store yesterday looking for peel-and-stick carpet tiles. We see them offered at many places online, but wanted to buy them from a store so we could look at them first to make sure the color and texture were what we wanted. When we asked the salesman if they had them, he said, "I've been in the carpet business for 40 years, and never in my 40 years of being in this business have I ever seen peel-and-stick carpet." Wwwhuuut? They're all over the place online, including on the site peelandstickcarpettiles.com! We were so annoyed we just said oh, ok, and left.

I'm tired of listening to my elderly friends complain.

Complain about neighbors, complain about medical problems, complain about nurses, complain about insurance, and
COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW THEIR KIDS DON'T WANT TO TALK LONG ON THE PHONE OR VISIT THEM ANYMORE.

I'm with the kids: STFU already with the complaining.

But I would really rather these people go back to being the interesting conversationalists they were before their worlds became so tiny. It's actually very sad.

+1000

Can I add to your excellent post? People who don't see when they create their own problems, such as your example above. Especially in those "old enough to know better".
