I met a guy I hired to help me move a firearm safe from the other side of town. The store helped load it in his pickup and off to home we went. I've owned an old hand truck for many years and it got some work. The safe only weighs about 400 pounds and we only had to take it up one flight of stairs. So what could possibly go wrong? Not too much except it wouldn't turn the 90° corner on the steps. A little ingenuity got it sliding on cardboard and we were upstairs!

It's now in the upstairs closet full of firearms and magazines. I'm going to move all the tactical ammo upstairs, my goal is tomorrow. I'm not sure I'll accomplish it as bunch of bruises are starting to show up.

We actually turned the AC on today it got hot(78) in the house. DW and I may differ on when to turn it off. I hate sleeping in AC. It's getting down to 50° but starts dropping into the 40s in two days.

Went to the Golden Spike National Historic Site in Promontory, Utah. Then drove on the Logan Canyon Scenic Highway (US 89) to Bear Lake on the Idaho - Utah border. The view is from our bed in the Bluebird Inn

Played golf and shot 78 with one birdie. Not bad for me. Tomorrow.... college football viewing on tv and on Sunday I plan to drive to the beach. I usually don't mind the drive but those darn lovebugs are out so I will have at least an hour clean-up getting them off my car. And then again on the return trip. Oh well.....the trials and tribulations of retirement.

Ross and Chandler and the Couch that Wouldn't Pivaaaaaat!!

This morning I hit the grocery store early, hardly a soul around. Had an enjoyable experience and joked about last weeks madhouse.

After that experience I decided to start moving ammunition into the new safe. I didn't expect all of it to fit but I managed to move it all upstairs and into the safe. It was probably about 500 pounds in all, heck I found 250 .357 Sig rounds. I no longer own a .357 Sig! It was a good experience as I found a brick of 22LR I lost last decade ago. I felt I was missing a bunch of 45ACP PD rounds and magazines, drove me nuts until I found where I packed them.

After a bunch of ibuprofen I needed a root beer float, I hadn't had one in years. Made a little pain go away too.

Drove up the Snake River Canyon to Jackson, Wyoming, where we ate lunch at the Snake River Brewing Company. Stopped by to look at the Moulton Barn, the default desktop wallpaper on my work computer for many years. Currently digesting a fine meal at the Jackson Lake Lodge. I can sit in bed and look at Mount Moran.20190907_153441.jpeg

Majestic, beautiful - nature at her best.

Sounds like an episode of "The Big Bang Theory".

Cheers!

I have driven my RV up/down I-15 many times as that is about the only practical way to get north from where I am. I have taken opportunities to stop to visit downtown Salt Lake City, and to make detour to see the skiing area in Park City. But I did not even notice Bear Lake on the map. It's something to consider the next time I wander by on an RV trek.

Today we went horseback riding in Grand Teton National Park. We saw a grizzly bear with two cubs while we were riding. Fortunately, she was several hundred yards away.20190908_112112(1).jpeg20190908_103909.jpeg

It should. You did start the saw? Right?[emoji111]

LOL. Old joke punchline: "Whoa, what's that noise?"

Today I split wood with my splitting ax. Really out of breath. Too old?

Filled out a survey at Home Depot's web site to win a $5k gift card.

DW says if it wins we're getting hardwood floors in the family room.

Funny, just the opposite happened to us. We just had new floors installed from Lumber Liquidators (for DW). I just got a survey from them with an opportunity to win $500:)

It’s hot here again. A buddy of ours just bought a fancy new road bike. We went for a ride with him on the local trail by the lake. Quite warm by noon. Went for another ride around the ‘hood after dinner. Nice, but still hot and humid. Decided to never relocate to a place with warmer summers than this. It would kill me, and we’re in northern flyover, not really that hot. Friends are threatening to move to rural TN. Guess we’ll not be joining them.

I took Lena on a mystery trip to the coffee shop in the library of a local college (Humboldt State University).

Nice coffee shop. It's a different planet there, populated with young people.

I just got a check from the IRS for $9.19:dance: . The 19 cents was interest. Apparently they are refunding me my underpayment penalty of $9. It will be interesting to see if CA will refund me the $3 in underpayment penalty:rolleyes:

They probably will. I got a check back once. The long arms of the computers work both ways.

Doing the sanding on my latest project, an "on the gun safe" cabinet. You just can't buy this stuff - :)

We've spent the last 3 days bucking and collecting firewood from deadfall on our wooded 12 acres. That sounds more Paul Bunyan-ish than it really was. :)

We are going after dead Eastern Dogwoods (Cornus florida) - the deader, the better (as long as they are not rotten or insect infested). The good news is that they are relatively small, so easy to drop (if still standing), easy to cut and easy to collect.

The bad news is that they are small. :) For about the same amount of bending, walking, etc. we could get more cordage by choosing bigger hardwoods.

Dogwood makes a terrific fire. The BTUs per cord are higher that almost any other hardwood we could get in the southeast. I also believe I can burn some of this wood this winter (based on the weight of pieces).

I don’t know what has come over DH, but this morning he readily agreed that I should plan a road trip that includes a couple days of biking in western VA and some time on the Outer Banks. (The beach time was an easy sell, but he usually doesn’t like the biking).

Then he suggested that we should do a total remodel (!) of our master bath instead of the relatively minor upgrades we had previously discussed. I wonder if he has secretly been reading the “blow that dough” thread?

I’m not complaining. I plan to spend the evening planning the road trip and browsing Pinterest for ideas.

I applied online for my social security benefit. Since my birthday is in November, I probably won't receive a deposit until January of next year. But hey, I've got my name in the pot! :D
