What new series are you watching? *No Spoilers, Please*

We just finished Deadwater Fell on Acorn. Four episodes that came to almost four hours of my life I'll never see again. Three episodes with interesting plot twists, then What a letdown!

Watched Deadwater Fell and the second season of Blood this week—both went to very dark places. David Tennant is so smart to play characters like that imo.

We bailed on The Widow with Kate Beckinsale after episode 3 when her ponytail and clothes were still impeccable in spite of the location and the situation.

We just started After Life on Netflix. DH doesn't normally care for Ricky Gervais but we're both really enjoying this, even if it is a little 'dark' in the beginning.

I am also enjoying Baptise at the moment. I am also re-watching an oldie - Battlestar Galactica - the remake with Olmos playing commander Adama.

I tried watching the Tiger King. Yuck.

Anyone watching "Dispatches From Elsewhere" on AMC?

I am only half way through, but it is really well written. It has a Lodge 49 vibe.

So you're the other one! I am, but I have to watch it late at night after DW has gone to bed. She's not a fan. I really like it. I'll have to check out Lodge 49. Never heard of it.

I guess we are the other ones. We have watched nine episodes and, I hope, there is only one left -- Episode 10 - April 27th. This is one of those shows that is interesting enough to watch but when the episode ends, one has this nagging feeling that there is a better use of ones time. Therefore, we will keep watching until it goes away and count ourselves lucky to have escaped.

FWIW, we didn't "binge" it but watched an episode a week. In retrospect, that was the wisest choice. <chuckle>

I finished this series last night. That really took a turn. I was going to say "an odd turn", but really the whole thing was so odd it's hard to say the last episode was any odder than the rest.

I did enjoy Eve Lindley as Simone, and will be interested to see what she does next.

DAVE on FX. It's raunchy and very funny if you are into that sort of thing (think: 'Big Mouth') but not as silly as it initially seems. 'Succession' on HBO pulled me right in and I'm getting into a parallel world love story from Korea 'The King: Eternal Monarch'. Korean TV is not everyone's cup of tea but I really enjoy it.

I realize this thread is "new" series. I started re watching Madmen. The quality of that series is impressive. I'm stuck now, even though I know the finale it's fun re watching Don Draper expand and learn from his wicked ways. The way alcohol flowed from office to office of the "executives" is shocking. Does anyone know if that was true? I know Matthew Weiner researched, but wow!

We just finished Ozark (all three seasons). Wow! Excellent show.

Now we're starting The Wire. I've heard about how good it is for a long time. We didn't have HBO back in the day (never saw The Sopranos either). We're just a couple episodes in, and already hooked.

We also have been watching Westworld. I like it better than DW, but we both like it. We've also been catching up on Stumptown. That and Evil and Emergence are our favorites from network TV.

After all that intensity, we like to finish the evening with an episode of Schitt's Creek. It's funny and quirky, and takes the edge off.

Oh yeah, we also signed up for 3 months of Starz for $5/month, so DW can catch up on Outlander. I like it too, but that one's for her.

I found the smoking and drinking hard alcohol to be hard to watch. Every scene I could not imagine working all day and waking up every morning to that feeling (hung over) and mouth taste.

I know that was how it "was", but I think it could have been tamed down a bit. It took away from my overall enjoyment of the series.

Thought I was the only one who hadn’t seen Sopranos. I’m about halfway thru binging it. Loving it. You should definitely add it to your list.

I’ll add Wire to my list

I'm also working my way through the Sopranos (definitely not a new series, so not really germane to this thread). One of my relatives married into an Italian-American family, so it's fun to watch. I've tentatively decided that running a legal and illegal family business aren't so different after all. Sure, with an illegal biz you need to watch out for law enforcement (and your own ethical sensibility, if you happen to be cursed with one :) ), but otherwise the challenges are exactly the same.

Well, another difference might also be that getting whacked thing you gotta worry about.

Yes, the Italian-American references in the show are funny and interesting. Words like goomah, gabagool, manigot, marone, and of course stugots (Tony’s boat name). I’ve enjoyed looking these up to learn their meanings.

The Wire sets a high standard for police dramas. At least two of the actors have gone on to other great police shows: Idris Elba (Stringer Bell) later starred in the British police drama "Luther." Lance Reddick (Cedrick Daniels) is the police chief Ivin Irving in "Bosch."

The Sopranos is still one of my all-time favorites with great writers and actors creating amazing complex characters.

"Blood" is a broadcast TV series from the UK. You can stream it here if you are in the UK: https://www.my5.tv/blood

If you are not in the UK, then you will need a VPN that makes it look like you're there.

I watched it on Acorn. I didn't like any of the characters (they all annoyed me as they seemed angry all the time), so I didn't bother to watch season 2. I have a hard time with any show if I don't have at least one person/character I like in a show. My subscription expired before I could watch the last episode of Deadwater Fell, but it's all good as I didn't like anybody in the show either, although I really enjoyed the main guy in Broadchurch and the main woman in Good Fight.

Dominic West, who played Jimmy McNulty in The Wire is another English actor who's been in some good shows.

Actually Blood (seasons 1 and 2) is streaming on Acorn now. :flowers:

Edited to add: well, I should probably read all the posts first. I see more than one person already posted this info.

And thank you all for that info! I saw part of season 1 when we were traveling, and then I watched the rest via VPN, so I was figuring I'd have to do the same for season 2. Never thought of checking Acorn, so I do appreciate the info.
