Wake up one morning, and you're in a Rowan & Martin segment:
In all my past 53 years of experiences, am 73, just discounting stuff before age 20, only people in the chemical and biochemistry fields self identified as scientist. Most were lab techs or students working on their degrees. Only one of the bunch had MS.
Never found any others in a wide range of hard sciences who self identified as scientist. Media folks seem to call scientists those people engaged in and having expertise in furthering knowldge.
I found a trick to hide those. Here's a true "pet" peeve:
I wish people would stop re-posting lost puppy and lost kitty notices on FB. I live in MO and no, I haven't seen your furbaby that ran away from your home in SC!
Given the way politicians are throwing the word 'science' around to justify whatever they want to do, it may soon be a source of problems to call oneself a 'scientist'.

Around here, there is a number of posts about hawks and even eagles along with coyotes that are seen taking game (squirrels and rabbits . . .) and some even discuss how a small dog or cat has been taken for food.
Then there's the posts about lost furbabies and no one seems to want to say the obvious. Sad as it may be, furbaby ain't coming home.
We've had a family of coyotes in the back yard since last summer. Decreased human activity has likely made them more comfortable being right in the city. Sadly for the last two weeks things have quieted down dramatically. I am hoping that the pups have either matured, they have moved on or both but DW fears that animal control may have relocated them.I think those posts are everywhere. When we lived in the burbs of ATL, we saw the coyote posts often. People wanted animal control to take care of it. Now, we are out in the country and we see THE SAME posts. I guess it's the nature of the beast.
DD and SIL use a clothespin to clip outgoing mail on the inside of their mailbox; did it for years.

If they are being reposted from a page such as "SC Animal Shelter" you can click on the "..." at the top right of the post, and select "Hide All from SC Animal Shelter" and you won't see those types of posts again that originated from SC Animal Shelter.
DD and SIL use a clothespin to clip outgoing mail on the inside of their mailbox; did it for years. Then new mailman enters the scene, takes the clothespin, leaves the mail. DD and SIL complain at post office. SIL wires clothes pin to mailbox, still clipping mail inside mailbox. Mailman still steals clothespin, but with more concerted effort, still leaves outgoing mail. DD and SIL complain again to Post Office Management. A couple of Saturdays ago, SIL confronts mailman and asks why he's not doing his job of delivering and taking outgoing mail. Mailman says he can't, not the way he was trained. Frustrated SIL tells him to just do his f-ing job. Now, the mailman doesn't even deliver the mail, he feels threatened! Now, DD and SIL have to go to Post Office to pick up mail, where they complain about lack of mail service every time. PS, their neighbors don't get their outgoing mail picked up either. WTH
Just curious; why? Never heard of anyone doing that.

I suppose this would annoy me too, but to put it in context, postal services in most other countries don’t pick up outgoing mail. This was a very surprising service to me when I moved here (many, many years ago). That said, it is what one has come to expect - not sure it is an official service offered by the postal service though, or just something they have been doing out of kindness. It probably does add some extra work (and maybe liability), so as they get squeezed more and more, they may be looking to cut services.
Personally, I have never trusted the system enough to leave important mail pieces in the mailbox. Especially when you set the flag, it sort of advertises potential loot to anyone out to steal your stuff. Used to be a bigger issue back when I routinely mailed checks for payments. I always mailed those by dropping them off at work or in a blue box.
