FDA Approves Booster Shot for People with Weakened Immune Systems

The pharmacy slapped another sticker with the booster batch number onto my existing card, filled in the date and pharmacy name, and that's it.

I need to check my states online record and see if the booster has shown up on it yet. Meanwhile, my body is supercharged with antibodies so I actually went out for lunch today and ate inside without a mask. If feel like one of the Wallenda family. :D

I was scheduled for a haircut back in June, but cancelled because of Delta. So I took my supercharged, boostered self out Tuesday for my first haircut in seven months. Living on the edge! :D:LOL:

We got our two COVID shots at the county health dept. so we each have a CDC card with those two shots marked on it. Can we take that card to any pharmacy, etc. and have the booster marked on it?

(Seems like common sense, but my ex-bureaucrat's sense tells me to check first).

That worked for me.

I had my first two shots at a hospital clinic 25 miles from home, and I had my booster at the CVS 3 miles from home. The pharmacy tech just recorded the booster info on the next space on the card. Now all I have to do is make sure I don't lose the card! I took a picture of it, just in case.

i will get it when ever my doc tells me too..the first was a bit rough .it used to be shingles was just for 60 and over..now they lowered the bar to age 50. I guess that means millions if not billions more $$ for the company who makes the shingles vaccine. what other reason would the cdc lower the age to age 50? I am 61 i would not want to get it at age 50.

I’m not sure I understand.

I had the Moderna shots. Now that a booster is approved for Moderna, my question will be …do I stick with Moderna or switch to Pfizer? I won’t hit the 8 month mark until the end of November so at this point I’m still in a wait and see mode. I definitely want to get a booster. Too many breakthrough infections have occurred and I don’t want that. I not only want to avoid severe illness, I want to avoid illness altogether. The people I know who have had a “mild“ infection didn’t find it all that easy.

By all accounts Moderna is holding up the most, so I'd stick with that. I'm considering getting Moderna for my #3, if and when my age group opens for boosters.

Moderna is normally a 100 ug injection, and Pfizer a 30 ug …

Moderna booster is supposedly 50 ug.

I had a third Moderna full shot … I would do that, again, but not sure is possible any longer.

Well, hard to argue with a conspiracy theory but the new vaccine works better than the old live attenuated one and was approved for use at 50 rather than 60 since the studies demonstrating efficacy used a >50 cut off. The risk of shingles increases gradually with age making it not obvious when to start. I had shingles at age 50 (before vaccines) and I was sick for months, still have pain where I had the rash 20 years later. I recommend getting the Shingrix vaccine at 50 (or earlier if approved).

Appointments are not yet available in California.

Last time, when CDC director approved Pfizer, they were readily available early next morning.

It appears they are- just booked my Moderna booster appt at CVS here in CA ten minutes ago.

Just got my half booster shot of Moderna at CVS, very efficient. There was a line of people getting the Moderna shots, CVS is requiring appointments, you can make online. The pharmacist said that they have many people wanting the Moderna, not just those who had the Moderna to begin with. She said several people who had the J&J first are getting Moderna now and even some people who had Pfizer first are getting the Moderna booster today.

So was it a half dose loaded syringe or did you get half a regular dose?

DH doesn't want our boosters until Fall work is done,we're at 7 months on Moderna right now.

The pharmacist said they are just filling the syringe with half a vial and then they can use the rest of the vial on the next person. They did not have to wait to get anything special from Moderna, they were ready to go this morning.

Thanks my DD got J and J and is a teacher. I wonder if she would get the whole of Moderna or the half dose.

I made no mention of conspiracy I stated that the age was lowered to age 50. And that lowering of age will mean millions more people who are eligible for shingle vaccine.. of course not everyone needs it or will get it..but certainly dropping that age increases the customer base.

No it doesn't each person gets two, so where is the base increase.

In fact this makes sense because for people are getting Shingles at a younger age. I saw some theories that those of us that had kids before Chicken pox vaccines got a mini booster against Shingles when our kids had chicken pox. Since the pox themselves shed virus. No one gets chicken pox anymore...

I signed up for my booster shot at CVS for my 6 month anniversary. They showed the CDC recommendations online but didn’t otherwise require me to answer any qualifying questions.
Yay, got my Pfizer booster!

Thanks for that info. Since Shingrix is pretty much one and done, I'm not sure how the manufacturer would make that much more money by lowering the age to 50 from 60.

I don't for sure but when I got my Moderna half booster the pharmacist said that some people who got J&J originally where getting the Moderna booster, I assume that means the half booster like I got. The J&J people can also get the Pfizer full booster but the Moderna might still be a better choice because even at half dose the Moderna still is stronger than Pfizer's full dose.

Covid Antibody test before getting 3rd dose

Not sure if this has been discussed here before.

I have a friend who got the antibody test to determine if he should get a 3rd dose of the Covid vaccine. I have read conflicting articles on this and am not sure if you have immunity either from your first 2 doses, exposure to Covid, or just a great immune system that you are protected and should wait for your booster shot.

Anyone have an antibody test to help you make a decision on when to get your Covid booster shot?

Thanks
